Revenge

Revenge is a form of primitive justice usually assumed to be enacted in the absence of the norms of formal law and jurisprudence. Often, revenge is defined as being a harmful action against a person or group in response to a grievance, be it real or perceived. It is used to right a wrong by going outside of the law. This is because the individual taking revenge feels as though the law will not do justice. Revenge is also known as payback, retribution, retaliation or vengeance; it may be characterized as a form of justice (not to be confused with retributive justice), an altruistic action which enforces societal or moral justice aside from the legal system. Francis Bacon described it as a kind of "wild justice" that "does... offend the law [and] putteth the law out of office". Primitive justice or retributive justice is often differentiated from more formal and refined forms of justice such as distributive justice and theological justice.

Function in society

Detractors argue that revenge is simply wrong, of the same design as "two wrongs make a right".

Scope (mouthwash)

Scope is a brand of mouthwash made by Procter & Gamble. It was introduced in 1966, and for many years has been positioned in the marketplace as the purportedly better-tasting alternative to Listerine, the longtime dominant mouthwash product.

Originally available only in mint flavor, Scope is still currently available in original mint (green), but also in a peppermint (blue) & new Scope White. The Citrus Splash flavor was discontinued due to insufficient demand to meet the slightly higher cost of production. There is a new Scope Outlast and a new logo; the old logo on the scope mouthwash is still on sale in available stores. Scope also manufactures "Dual-Blast" mouthwash, which is claimed to remove odors such as garlic and onion from the mouth and throat.

On March 26, 2013 Scope introduced a viral video campaign for a bacon flavored mouthwash. It was intended as an April Fools' Day joke.

Creamware (software company)

Creamware Audio GmbH (typically styled as creamw@re) was a manufacturer of DSP-based sound cards and synthesizers. These cards are used to create synthesized sounds for audio production in music and other audio environments. The company was founded in 1992 and operated until 2006. In 2007, the company 'Sonic Core' purchased certain Creamware assets and intellectual property.

Creamware also developed several digital audio software/hardware combination systems that became very popular with radio broadcasters throughout the late 1990s. These systems included 'TripleDAT' and a scaled-down version called 'CutMaster'. Both versions were widely used by German commercial radio as well as government owned state controlled radio in China.

History

The software made by Creamware offered better visual handling than other products, of audio 'samples', sometimes called 'clips' or 'items' in similar software. A user could easily drag samples up and down virtual digital multi-tracks in a window called the 'arranger'. Zooming functions allowed users to zoom in to fine detail of wave forms, then easily return to a position where the user could gain a complete overview of their work.

Scope (computer science)

In computer programming, the scope of a name binding – an association of a name to an entity, such as a variable – is the part of a computer program where the binding is valid: where the name can be used to refer to the entity. In other parts of the program the name may refer to a different entity (it may have a different binding), or to nothing at all (it may be unbound). The scope of a binding is also known as the visibility of an entity, particularly in older or more technical literature – this is from the perspective of the referenced entity, not the referencing name. A scope is a part of a program that is or can be the scope for a set of bindings – a precise definition is tricky (see below), but in casual use and in practice largely corresponds to a block, a function, or a file, depending on language and type of entity. The term "scope" is also used to refer to the set of all entities that are visible or names that are valid within a portion of the program or at a given point in a program, which is more correctly referred to as context or environment.
