Essence (The X-Files)

"Essence" is the twentieth and penultimate episode of the eighth season and the 181st episode overall of the science fiction television series The X-Files. The episode first aired in the United States on May 13, 2001 on Fox, and subsequently aired in the United Kingdom. It was written by executive producer Chris Carter and directed by Kim Manners. "Essence" earned Nielsen rating of 7.7 and was viewed by 12.8 million viewers. The episode received largely positive reviews from critics.

The show centers on FBI special agents John Doggett (Robert Patrick) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)—as well as ex-FBI agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny)—who work on cases linked to the paranormal, called X-Files. In this episode, Mulder, Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), and Doggett come up against the horrible consequences of the Syndicate’s pact with the aliens, as Billy Miles (Zachary Ansley)—reprogrammed as a soldier—attempts to erase all evidence of the tests—including Scully's soon-to-be-born baby. The men call on Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) to help them.

Reviewed in the January 3, 1963 issue of Down Beat magazine, jazz critic Richard B. Hadlock said that "Over and over throughout the 44 remarkable minutes of this recording the force of Ellis' extraordinary musicianship makes itself felt. Indeed, at times his complete mastery of the horn almost seems to get in the way. But this is a brilliant young musician with original ideas to offer..."

The Allmusic site awarded the album 4 stars stating "Ellis, who sought during this period to transfer ideas and concepts from modern classical music into adventurous jazz, often experimented with time, tempos and the use of space while still swinging... This is thought-provoking music that was certainly way overdue to be reissued."The Penguin Guide to Jazz said "The group is a fine one; even the little-known drummers play with authority and seem equal to Ellis's developing rhythmic obsessions. ...Bley is fascinating and Peacock his usual authoritative self."

Restless (New Order song)

"Restless" is a song by English rock band New Order, released on 28 July 2015 to promote their upcoming tenth album, Music Complete. This is the first single, as well as new material, New Order has released in a decade since 2005's single, "Waiting for the Sirens' Call", as well as the first single featuring Tom Chapman replacing former bassist and founding member Peter Hook. The song's concept revolves around greed and consumption.

The song has received generally favourable reviews. The overall composition, as well as its catchy tune and lyrics were praised.

Background

This is the first single released since 2005, as well as the return of Gillian Gilbert and the introduction of Tom Chapman.

Music Complete was announced from 2 September 2014 thru 22 June 2015 on Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, as well as other places, including the band's official website. They all hinted at a future release of an LP, as well as other future releases.

On July 28, the single was released as a format of digital download. A physical CD and 12" vinyl with additional remixes were released later on October 6.

Restless (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

"Restless" is the 22nd episode and season finale of season four of the supernatural drama television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003), and the 78th episode of the series overall. The episode was written and directed by the show's creator Joss Whedon and originally aired on The WB in the United States on May 23, 2000.

The premise of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is that an adolescent girl, Buffy Summers, is chosen by mystical forces and given superhuman powers to kill vampires, demons, and other evil creatures in the fictional town of Sunnydale. She is supported by a close circle of family and friends, nicknamed the Scooby Gang. "Restless" centers on the dreams of the four main characters after enduring an exhausting fight in the previous episode. The dreams are used to comment on the characters—their fears, their past and their possible future. Consistent with each dream is the presence of the First Slayer who hunts and kills them one by one until, in the final sequence, she is confronted and disempowered by Buffy.

Restless (Switchfoot song)

"Restless" is a song written and recorded by the alternative rock band Switchfoot, and a radio single from Vice Verses, their eighth studio album. It served as the album's co-lead single with "Dark Horses".

Song history

Lead singer and principal songwriter for the band Jon Foreman wrote the song in Europe, with the intent of "trying to embody the story of the rain," which comes from the idea that raindrops are on a "relentless" journey back to the ocean. "I was thinking about the idea that I'm on a journey myself," he says. "...reaching and searching and longing for more.

The song first made a public appearance in April 2011 when Foreman performed an acoustic rendition live at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was later performed by the full band on May 18th in London, Ontario during a brief Canadian tour.

The official music video for the song debuted on 31 October 2011. It was directed by Tom Aiello.

Reception

"Restless" was released to Christian CHR radio in July alongside Switchfoot's mainstream single, "Dark Horses." Air1 picked up the song on July 18, 2011.
