Resolution (film)

Resolution is a 2012 American thriller-horror film directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Scott Moorhead, written by Benson, and starring Peter Cilella and Vinny Curran. Cilella plays a professional from the city who goes back to his hometown to save his junkie friend, played by Curran.

Plot

Michael Danube, a professional graphic designer who lives in the city with his wife, receives an email that contains a video of Chris Daniels, his former best friend. Chris has become a junkie, and his behavior is delusional and erratic. A map is included with the video. Despite the objections of his wife, Michael decides to make one last attempt to save his friend from drug addiction. Michael promises to return after one week and follows the map to a run-down house, where he hears Chris ranting and shooting a pistol. Michael cautiously approaches the house and announces himself. Chris reacts positively and invites him in, ranting about various subjects. Michael tries to convince Chris to go to rehab, but Chris refuses. Michael uses a stun gun to stun Chris and handcuffs him to a pipe. When Michael returns from a shopping trip, he sees Chris trying to cut through his handcuff with a toothbrush. In the morning, Michael uses the stun gun again to stave off an attempted attack by Chris.

Resolution (Lamb of God album)

Resolution is the sixth studio album by American groove metal band Lamb of God. It is available on a single disc CD or a two-disc deluxe edition.

Information

Like the band's debut Burn the Priest, Resolution contains elements of thrash metal along with the groove metal style the band have become known for.

The album was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur as was the previous album. The main difference with previous records is that its writing process started before they ended touring on Wrath, and started in hotel rooms on a laptop.

Besides the normal edition a two disc was available in the UK to pre-order for a limited time, containing a bonus 12-track live album entitled "Wrath – Tour 2009/2010," which was only available through Amazon.co.uk, Play.com and HMV. The lead single, entitled "Ghost Walking", was released on December 5, 2011. The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Rock Chart. The album sold around 52,000 copies in the U.S. during the first week of release. The album has sold 161,000 copies in the US as of June 2015.

Display resolution

The display resolution or display modes of a digital television, computer monitor or display device is the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. It can be an ambiguous term especially as the displayed resolution is controlled by different factors in cathode ray tube (CRT) displays, flat-panel displays (including liquid-crystal displays) and projection displays using fixed picture-element (pixel) arrays.

It is usually quoted as width × height, with the units in pixels: for example, "1024 × 768" means the width is 1024 pixels and the height is 768 pixels. This example would normally be spoken as "ten twenty-four by seven sixty-eight" or "ten twenty-four by seven six eight".

One use of the term "display resolution" applies to fixed-pixel-array displays such as plasma display panels (PDP), liquid-crystal displays (LCD), Digital Light Processing (DLP) projectors, AMOLED displays, quantum dot displays, MicroLED displays and similar technologies, and is simply the physical number of columns and rows of pixels creating the display (e.g. 1920 × 1080). A consequence of having a fixed-grid display is that, for multi-format video inputs, all displays need a "scaling engine" (a digital video processor that includes a memory array) to match the incoming picture format to the display.

Resolution (Matt Corby song)

"Resolution" is the first single released from Australian singer-songwriter Matt Corby's Resolution EP and his forthcoming debut album. The song was released on 23 May 2013 by Universal Music Australia. "Resolution" peaked at number 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified 2× Platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association for shipments exceeding 140,000 copies.

Background

Corby wrote the song while he was living in Los Angeles. He said, "I got a little paranoid and I didn't really leave the house for a couple of days. I couldn't understand why I was so afraid of the world at this time so I wrote 'Resolution'. It's an ode to humanity and the way I want to be with other people and spread some love in an un-cheesy way."

? (also written Tanda Tanya, meaning Question Mark) is a 2011 Indonesian drama film directed by Hanung Bramantyo. It stars Revalina Sayuthi Temat, Reza Rahadian, Agus Kuncoro, Endhita, Rio Dewanto, and Hengky Sulaeman. The theme is Indonesia's religious pluralism, which often results in conflict between religious beliefs, represented in a plot that revolves around the interactions of three families, one Buddhist, one Muslim, and one Catholic. After undergoing numerous hardships and the deaths of several family members in religious violence, they are reconciled.

Based on Bramantyo's experiences as a mixed-race child, ? was meant to counter the portrayal of Islam as a "radical religion". Owing to the film's theme of religious pluralism and controversial subject matter, Bramantyo had difficulty finding backing. Eventually, Mahaka Pictures put forth Rp 5 billion to fund the production. Filming began on 5 January 2011 in Semarang.

Released on 7 April 2011, ? was a critical and commercial success: it received favourable reviews and was viewed by more than 550,000 people. Also screened internationally, it was nominated for nine Citra Awards at the 2011 Indonesian Film Festival, winning one. However, several Indonesian Muslim groups, including the Indonesian Ulema Council and Islamic Defenders Front, protested against the film because of its pluralist message.

Origins and history

Though not exactly labelled as such, there were early precedents for "television movies", such as Talk Faster, Mister, which aired on WABD (now WNYW) in New York City on December 18, 1944, and was produced by RKO Pictures, or the 1957 The Pied Piper of Hamelin, based on the poem by Robert Browning, and starring Van Johnson, one of the first filmed "family musicals" made directly for television. That film was made in Technicolor, a first for television, which ordinarily used color processes originated by specific networks (most "family musicals" of the time, such as Peter Pan, were not filmed but broadcast live and preserved on kinescope, a recording of a television program made by filming the picture from a video monitor – and the only method of recording a television program until the invention of videotape).
