A Reiks (Lat. Rix) is a gothic title, position and rank of nobility. It is translated from the [[Greek language |Greek]] árchōn (Gr. ἄρχων, pl. ἄρχοντες) in the Gothic Bible.[1] It is also translated from the Greek Basiliskos (Gr. βασιλίσκος) in the Passio of Sabbas the Goth.[2]
The Thervingian gothic kingdom (Gutþiuda) was divided into subdivisions of territory and people called Kunja (singular Kuni), by a Reiks (gothic ruler).[3] In times of a common threat, Reiks were selected as a kindins, or head of the Empire ("judges", Lat. iudex, Gr. δικαστής).[4] Herwig Wolfram suggested the position was different to the Roman definition of a king having given consideration to the realities of Thervingi society. The title has not been elevated above that of a chief.[5] The Rieks had a lower order of optimates or Megistanes (Greek: μεγιστανεσ) beneath them, on whom they could call on for support.[6]
Rieks was originally a Celtic word adopted by East Germanic tribes and was used as a root word in many personal names such as Theodoric the Great (Þiuda-reiks - "ruler of the people"). The use of the suffix extended into the Merovingian dynasty after they became related, with kings given names such as Childeric.[7]
I'm walking unknown territory, where the sun's not shining
There's nothing golden about Golden Lane
The smoke is heavy in my lungs and the adverts are working
I just can't sell for who or what I am
I don't wanna miss out on anything
At the same time I feel the need to retreat
Everything is temporary these days
Might as well go out for a third night in a row
Should I give my money to a good cause or save for a holiday?
In a couple of months I could be in paradise
But the girl at the bar is well nice and she's looking over
It's only right that I get the next round in
I don't wanna miss out on anything
At the same time I feel the need to retreat
Everything is temporary these days
Might as well go out for a fifth night in a row
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Wake up, go out again, repeat
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Hook up, again this time, next week
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Wake up, go out again, repeat
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Hook up, again this time, next week
I don't wanna miss out on anything
At the same time I feel the need to retreat
Everything is temporary these days
Might as well go out for a fifth night in a row
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Wake up, go out again, repeat
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Hook up, again this time, next week
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
Walk home, come down, retreat to sleep
