Refugee (2000 film)

Refugee is a 2000 Indian film written and directed by J. P. Dutta. The film marked the debuts of Abhishek Bachchan, son of popular actor Amitabh Bachchan, and Kareena Kapoor, the younger sister of actress Karisma Kapoor. The film also starred Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty and Anupam Kher. The film performed moderately well at the box office and was the fifth highest grossing film of that year.

The films tells the story of an unnamed Indian Muslim, who helps illegal refugees from both India and Pakistan to cross the border through the Great Rann of Kutch. The film is attributed to have been inspired by the short story "Love Across the Salt Desert" by Keki N. Daruwalla.

Synopsis

Bihar-based Manzur Ahmad and his family was migrated to East Pakistan after the partitioning of India in 1947. However, after the formation of the state of Bangladesh in 1971, he and several other people were forced to re-locate to the western part of Pakistan. To do this by land, they will have to cross India. The route from Dhaka leads to Guwahati in India then to Delhi then to Ajmer then to Bhuj, and then on to Haji Peer in Pakistan.

Refugee (Refugee album)

Refugee is the self-titled and only album of progressive rock group Refugee. The album was originally issued on Charisma Records in March 1974. It was re-released under the TimeWave label on 27 June 2006. A live album Refugee Live in Concert. Newcastle City Hall 1974 was issued in 2007, on Voiceprint Records, containing two songs from the era of Lee Jackson and Brian Davison's earlier band The Nice, "The Diamond Hard Blue Apples of the Moon" and the Bob Dylan song "She Belongs to Me", as well as songs from this album.

The title of the track "Ritt Mickley" originated from Moraz's strong French Swiss accent when he asked other band members to play the track again but more rhythmically.

Background

When Keith Emerson left The Nice to form another band, with Greg Lake and Carl Palmer, Lee Jackson and Brian Davison found themselves on their own, so they went their separate ways, Davison formed Brian Davison's Every Which Way and Lee formed Jackson Heights. After recording their fourth album Bump 'n' Grind, in 1973, Jackson approached Swiss keyboardist Patrick Moraz and asked him if he would be interested in joining his band. Moraz refused, but proposed instead that they form another band. Jackson then called in his old band-mate from The Nice, Davison to join on drums, and Refugee was born.

Otherworld is a fictional dimension in the Marvel Comics Marvel Universe. It is more commonly known as, and based on, the mythical Avalon from Celtic and more specifically Welsh mythology.

Avalon first appeared in Fantastic Four #54 (September 1966) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Avalon's dimension was referred to as Otherworld for the first time in Captain Britain #1 (October 1976) by Chris Claremont, Herb Trimpe, and Fred Kida.

General description

While the dimension of Otherworld is also known as Avalon, the island of Avalon is actually only a small part of the large dimension that is Otherworld. Other places within this dimension include Fomor, home of the Fomorians, Annwn, home of the dead, and many other locales associated with Celtic mythology. The Starlight Citadel is home of Roma and the base of the Captain Britain Corps.

In general, Otherworld is a High fantasy world; gods, elves, dragons and many more live within small towns and large castles with no heavy industry. Large forests and bright lakes separate the several islands and locations from one another. Otherworld is not primitive though; while sorcery and magic are a part of daily life, the Captain Britain Corps and Avalon possess highly advanced technology.

Avalon: The Legend Lives is a text-based online multi-player role-playing game world that was first released on 28 October 1989 at the gaming convention Adventure 89. Its has maintained a continuous on-line presence with consistent and intact persona files and player history since the late 1980s, rendering it the longest-running online roleplaying game in history.

While it follows closely in the tradition of many early Multi-User Dungeons, it was Avalon that pioneered many features that have since become signature components of the role-playing game genre: real economies, distinct ecosystems and weather effects, gods with followers and priests, player housing and autonomous governments, skill-based real time PVP combat, and a fully realized warfare conquest system as well as pioneering plotted quests rather than the standard puzzle or treasure dash systems seen in first generations MUD's and MUA.

Within Avalon, players are offered the opportunity to "live another life"; to fully immerse themselves in the gameworld—a world of merchants, thieves, princes, gods, dragons, and more. It was the first game of its—or any—kind with its own history and narrative that was decided by the players themselves.
