Reece Mastin (born 24 November 1994) is a British-Australian singer and songwriter who won the third season of The X Factor Australia in 2011. Mastin subsequently signed with Sony Music Australia. His debut single "Good Night" reached number one in Australia and New Zealand, and became Sony Music Australia's fastest selling digital single. Mastin's self-titled debut album debuted at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified double platinum. His second studio album Beautiful Nightmare (2012) included the hit singles "Shut Up & Kiss Me" and "Shout It Out", the latter became Mastin's second number-one single in Australia. "Good Night" and "Shout It Out" earned him two ARIA No. 1 Chart Awards. In 2015, Mastin parted ways with Sony and signed with independent label Social Family Records. His third studio album Change Colours was released in October 2015, and debuted at number 12.
Reece Mastin was born on 24 November 1994 in Scunthorpe, England to parents Debbie and Darren Mastin. Mastin has three sisters, including Georgina who auditioned for the fifth season of The X Factor Australia but got eliminated in the home visits round. At the age of seven, he was diagnosed with glue ear syndrome, a condition that is "caused by a chronic build-up of fluid in the middle ear and is the biggest cause of hearing loss in young children". At the age of 11, Mastin and his family moved to Greenwith, South Australia, citing the weather and to seek better opportunities as reasons for the move. Mastin taught himself how to sing at a young age, by singing along to his favourite songs on the radio. He began writing songs at the age of 12.
Reece Mastin is the self-titled debut studio album by Reece Mastin, the 2011 winner of the The X Factor (Australia), released through Sony Music Australia on 9 December 2011. The album debuted at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified double platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). The album's lead single "Good Night", preceded the album's release, and debuted at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. To promote the album, Mastin toured shopping centres across Australia. He also embarked on his first headlining Australian tour in December 2011 and ended in February 2012.
Reece Mastin features re-recorded studio tracks of some of Mastin's performances during the live shows on The X Factor (Australia), as well as his winner's single, "Good Night". Mastin recorded the album in three days. In an interview with News Limited, he explained: "We had to go as quick as I could, but it was a good three days ... Every song I tried to put in as much of me as I could. That's a good starting point, trying to be a little bit original on a covers album."
Beauty queen of only 18 she, has some troubles with herself
You were always there to help her she, always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles and wound up at your door
I had so many times but somehow I want more
And I don't mind spendin' every day
Out on your corner in the pourin' rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
And ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
Tap on my window, knock on my door I, wanna make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure, doesn't matter anymore
It's not always rainbows and butterflies, it's compromise that moves us
Along
My heart's always broken, my door's always open, you can come anytime you
Want
And I don't mind spendin' every day
Out on your corner in the pourin' rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
And ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
I know where you hide, alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothin' at all
Come back and beg me to catch her every time she falls, every time she
Falls
Tap on my window, knock on my door I, wanna make you feel beautiful
I don't mind spendin' every day
Out on your corner in the pourin' rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
And ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
