Lamb of God

Lamb of God (Greek: ἀμνὸς τοῦ θεοῦ, amnos tou theou; Latin: Agnus Dei) is a title for Jesus that appears in the Gospel of John. It appears at John 1:29, where John the Baptist sees Jesus and exclaims, "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

Although "Lamb of God" refers in Christian teachings to Jesus Christ in his role of the perfect sacrificial offering, Christological arguments dissociate the term from the Old Testament concept of a "scapegoat", which is a person or animal subject to punishment for the sins of others without knowing it or willing it. Christian doctrine holds that Jesus chose to suffer at Calvary as a sign of his full obedience to the will of his Father, as an "agent and servant of God". The Lamb of God is thus related to the Paschal Lamb of Passover, which is viewed as foundational and integral to the message of Christianity.

A lion-like lamb that rises to deliver victory after being slain appears several times in the Book of Revelation. It is also referred to in Pauline writings, 1 Corinthians 5:7 suggests that Saint Paul intends to refer to the death of Jesus, who is the Paschal Lamb, using the theme found in Johannine writings.

  • Redneck

The term redneck is a derogatory term chiefly used for a rural poor white person of the Southern United States. Its usage is similar in meaning to cracker (especially regarding Georgia and Florida), hillbilly (especially regarding Appalachia and the Ozarks), and white trash (but without the last term's suggestions of immorality).

Patrick Huber has emphasized the theme of masculinity in the continued expansion of the term in the 20th century, noting, "The redneck has been stereotyped in the media and popular culture as a poor, dirty, uneducated, and racist Southern white man."

    Anti-conservative epithet

By 1975, say Chapman and Kipfer, the term had expanded in meaning beyond the poor Southerner to refer to "a bigoted and conventional person, a loutish ultra-conservative." For example, in 1960 John Barlow Martin felt that Senator John F. Kennedy should not enter the Indiana Democratic presidential primary because the state was "redneck conservative country." Indiana, he told Kennedy, was a state "suspicious of foreign entanglements, conservative in fiscal policy, and with a strong overlay of Southern segregationist sentiment."William Safire says it is often used to attack white Southern conservatives. The term is also used broadly to degrade working class and rural whites that are perceived by urban progressives to be insufficiently liberal. At the same time, some white Southerners have reclaimed the word, using it with pride and defiance as a self-identifier.

    Redneck (disambiguation)

A redneck is a white person of lower socio-economic status in the United States and Canada.

Redneck or rednecks may also refer to:

  • Redneck (comics), a comic character.

"Redneck" is the seventh single from the heavy metal band Lamb of God, from their fourth album Sacrament, as well as the first single from the album. A music video was also produced for the song. Vocalist Randy Blythe described the song's meaning in an interview with the magazine Metal Hammer:

The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance at the Grammy Awards of 2007. It appeared as Brian Posehn's introductory song on the Comedy Central "Roast of Bob Saget" and is featured on the track listing of THQ's Saints Row 2 and SCEA's ATV Offroad Fury 4 video games.

    Music video

The music video begins with a little girl named Mary Jane, whose birthday is near, her mother decides that this year instead of her father playing music they should "hire some professional entertainment" and looks at the yellow pages for a band. The band ad she sees is Lamb of God's, and thinking they're a Christian band she hires them. The next scene is a nice suburban birthday party for small children, one that is abruptly disturbed and eventually ruined as Lamb of God's tour bus arrives, full of scantily clad groupies and marijuana. The band and crew make themselves at home, trashing everything in their way, and continue to set up a stage, regardless of the obvious displeasure of the neighborhood. They play the rest of the song on stage, everyone but little Mary begins to flee from the aggressive metal sound, the video ends with the singer Randy Blythe falling unconscious into a kiddie pool and Mary laughing.

So goddamn easy to write this
You make it spill on the page
So drunk on your self, self-righteous
The laughing stock of your own fucking stage
But I ain't one to call names
Or throw stones in a house of glass
    You try me
    This is a motherfucking invitation
The only one you could ever need
    This is a motherfucking invitation
    You try me
Just one time, you got a reason
Heard you had nothing to lose
A blind preacher for the pin-eyed congregation
It must be easy to lose
But I ain't one to call names
Or throw stones in a house of glass
    You try me
    This is a motherfucking invitation
The only one you could ever need
    This is a motherfucking invitation
    You try me
You can tell the same lie a thousand times
But it never gets any more true
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you, just one time
    This is a motherfucking invitation
The only one you could ever need
    This is a motherfucking invitation
    Just one time
    This is a motherfucking invitation
    You try me
Just one time, you try me
Just one time, you try me
    You try me
