Steve Nieve (born Steven Nason, 19 February 1958) is an English keyboardist and composer. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Nieve has been a member of Elvis Costello and the Attractions, the Imposters and Madness. He has also experienced success as a prolific session musician, featured on a wide array of other artists' recordings.
In 2003 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Elvis Costello and the Attractions.
Nieve was born in London, England, and attended the Royal College of Music, but dropped out in 1977 to join Costello's backing band the Attractions. Nason received his musical moniker "Nieve" (pronounced as "naïve") while on the Attractions' first tour for Stiff Records. It was bestowed by tourmate Ian Dury who had been astonished by Nason's innocent query, "What's a groupie?" Before that, at least briefly, he had been using the punning multilingual pseudonym "Steve A'dore".
Nieve played piano, organ and other keyboard instruments on most of Costello's projects over the next ten years, including the albums This Year's Model (1978), Imperial Bedroom (1982) and Blood & Chocolate (1986). On the 1984 Costello album Goodbye Cruel World and its accompanying tour, he was credited as "Maurice Worm." His instrument credit on the album was not for playing keyboards, but for providing "random racket". He wrote some material on The Attractions' Costello-less album, Mad About the Wrong Boy under the name Norman Brain, in collaboration with his then girlfriend, Fay Hart. (He also wrote other songs on the album as Steve Nieve.)
Red Shoes may refer to:
Red Shoes was a Choctaw chief, who traded with British fur traders based in South Carolina in the 1740s and ignited the Choctaw Civil War. The French countered by arranging the assassination of Red Shoes. He was known in French as le Soulier Rouge. He is also known as Red Moccasin.
The Choctaw Indians once laid claim to millions of acres of land and established some 50 towns in present-day Mississippi and western Alabama. Their population was about 20,000 people scattered in these towns or villages.
The peoples who became known as the Choctaws (Chahtas) originally lived as separate societies throughout east-central Mississippi and west-central Alabama and all spoke dialects of the Muskogean language. The nation, in fact, was a league of independent principalities in which the weaker towns were often attached as dependencies to the stronger.
Red Shoes (born about 1720) was a Muskogean leader in the 18th Century. He primarily lived in modern Alabama but his influence extended well into modern Mississippi.
Red Shoes was the son of Jean Baptiste Louis DeCourtel Marchand and his Muskogee wife Sehoy. Since lineage among the Muskogee was traced matrilineally, Red Shoes, like his mother, was part of the Wind Clan. However, some sources say that Red Shoes was the son of Sehoy's second husband Red Shoes (Choctaw chief).
His sister, also named Sehoy, was the mother of Alexander McGillivray. In proper Muskogean tradition, Red Shoes raised Alexander in as if he were his own son. However, since Red Shoes's own children were members of their mother's clan, Alexander was Red Shoes's heir.
Red Shoes died about 1783.
Oh I used to be disgusted
And now I try to be amused.
But since their wings have got rusted,
You know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain,
That's when I knew that I could not refuse.
And I won't get any older, now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
Oh-oh.
I was watching while you're dancing away.
Our love got fractured in the echo and sway.
How come everybody wants to be your friend?
You know that it still hurts me just to say it.
Oh, I know that she's disgusted. (Oh why's that)
'Cause she's feeling so abused. (Oh that's too bad)
She gets tired of the lust, (Oh I'm so sad)
But it's so hard to refuse.
Can you say that I'm too old,
When the angels have stolen my red shoes?
Oh, I said "I'm so happy, I could die."
She said "Drop dead", then left with another guy.
That's what you get if you go chasing after vengeance.
Ever since you got me punctured this has been my sentence.
Oh I won't get any older, now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
Red shoes, the angels wanna wear my red shoes. (repeat and fade)
