Red Line (MARTA)

The Red Line is a rapid transit line in the MARTA rail system. It operates between North Springs and Airport stations, running through Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Atlanta, East Point and College Park.

The Red Line was originally called the North-South Line until MARTA switched to a color-based naming system in October 2009. The North-South Line, from its launch, was considered one line (denoted with the Orange Line color on old system maps) until 2006 when the North Branch and the Northeast branch were redesignated as the North-South Line (the current Red Line) and the Northeast-South Line (the current Gold Line).

The rail line was part of the launch of MARTA north-south rail service in 1981. The first segment ran from the Garnett to the North Avenue stations, although the Peachtree Center opened the year after as an infill. In 1982, it expanded north to Arts Center, and in 1984, expanded as far north as Brookhaven and as far south as Lakewood/Fort McPherson. The East Point station opened, extending the line two miles to the south. A little more than a year later, the Chamblee station began service and served as the temporary terminus of the North Line. In 1988, the Airport station opened, and became the terminus of the South Line. In 1992, the North-South Line was extended northward to its current terminus at Doraville. In 1998, MARTA extended North Line services to Dunwoody. This created two branches of the North Line, and the Doraville branch was redesignated as the Northeast Line to avoid confusion. It finally extended north to its current terminus at North Springs in 2000.

Ice hockey rink

An ice hockey rink is an ice rink that is specifically designed for ice hockey, a team sport. Alternatively it is used for other sports such as broomball, ringette and rink bandy. It is rectangular with rounded corners and surrounded by a wall approximately 1 meter (40-48 inches) high called the boards.

Name origins

Rink, a Scots word meaning 'course', was used as the name of a place where another game, curling, was played. Early in its history, ice hockey was played mostly on rinks constructed for curling. The name was retained after hockey-specific facilities were built.

There are two standard sizes for hockey rinks: one used primarily in North America, the other used in the rest of the world.

International

Hockey rinks in most of the world follow the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) specifications, which is 61 metres (200 ft) × 30.5 metres (100 ft) with a corner radius of 8.5 metres (28 ft). The distance from the end boards to the nearest goal line is 4 metres (13 ft). The distance from each goal line to the nearest blue line is 17.3 metres (57 ft). The distance between the two blue lines is also 17.3 metres (57 ft).

Red Line (Delhi Metro)

The Red Line of the Delhi Metro system in Delhi, consists of 21 stations that runs from Dilshad Garden to Rithala with a total distance of 24.4 km. The entire line is elevated. The line connects the areas of North East Delhi, North Delhi and North West Delhi.

History

The DMRC was facing a mammoth problem of funding. The then Central Government (BJP+NDA) did not have enough money for the project and no foreign fundings were available due to economic sanctions after the Pokaran-2 Nuclear Tests. The Central Government then took a bold decision. The Government decided to Construct a Segment of whole Project, by concentrating all available funds. This was done to show that India can handle such projects and attract foreign investors, specifically from Japan and South Korea. The Red Line was the first line of the Delhi Metro to be constructed and opened. The first Segment was constructed from Tis Hazari to Shahdara and opened on 25 December 2002. The Strategy worked in favour of DMRC. Many foreign investors, specifically from The Japan Bank for International Cooperation invested in the project, they were really impressed with the attempt, especially by the corruption free model. The money invested was utilised to complete the rest of the segments in phase-I and then in construction of the phase-II. Subsequently, other stations were opened in phases, initially between Tis Hazari to Inderlok in 2003, then from Inderlok to Rithala in 2004 and a final eastern extension from Shahdara to Dilshad Garden in 2008. The Red Line has interchanges with the Yellow Line at Kashmere Gate and the Green Line at Inderlok. Kashmere Gate will also have an interchange with the Violet Line - which currently terminates as ITO - by late 2016. This line is the third most heavily used by daily commuters, as it acts as a link for those, who reside in West and North Delhi, to travel towards East Delhi and vice versa.

Red Line (Dubai Metro)

The Red Line is one of the two lines on the Dubai Metro network in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The first section was inaugurated on 9 September 2009. Construction was declared complete on 28 April 2010. The line has 29 stations spanning 52.1 km (32.4 mi), which have been opened in phases from 2009 to 2011. It runs from Al Rashidiya to Jebel Ali and travels along Sheikh Zayed Road for most of its length.

Marta is a 1971 Spanish thriller film directed by José Antonio Nieves Conde. The film was selected as the Spanish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 44th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority or MARTA /ˈmɑːrtə/ is the principal rapid-transit system in the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is the eighth-largest rapid transit system in the United States by ridership. Formed in 1971 as strictly a bus system, MARTA operates a network of bus routes linked to a rapid transit system consisting of 48 miles (77 km) of rail track with 38 train stations. MARTA operates almost exclusively in Fulton, Clayton and DeKalb counties, with bus service to two destinations in Cobb County (Six Flags Over Georgia and the Cumberland Transfer Center next to the Cumberland Mall) and a single rail station in Clayton County at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. MARTA also operates a separate paratransit service for disabled customers. As of 2014, the average total daily ridership for the system (bus and rail) was 438,900 passengers.
