Last Exit (British band)

Last Exit was a British jazz fusion band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, in 1974 and is best remembered as the group Sting was in before finding stardom with The Police. The band name came from the book Last Exit to Brooklyn. Last Exit was composed of drummer Ronnie Pearson (also of the Phoenix Jazzmen), guitarists John Hedley and then Terry Ellis, keyboardist Gerry Richardson, and bassist and singer Sting.

The band was a leading act around Newcastle for several years. They released a single in 1975, "Whispering Voices/Evensong" (two Richardson compositions) on the Wudwink label, and later a tape called 'First from Last Exit' featuring nine original songs. In 1976, Carol Wilson, Head of Richard Branson's music publishing company, saw Last Exit play in the Gosforth Hotel in Newcastle and signed them. Virgin financed the recording of a demo in the Pathway Studios in London. Wilson organised a number of gigs, including Dingwalls, and a double page feature in Sounds and played the demo to every major record label. Most A&R men liked it but could not see an obvious category to market the band, so no record deal materialised. In 1977, Last Exit moved to London but after a few gigs half of the band returned to Newcastle, and Sting and Richardson started looking for other jobs. Richardson worked with Billy Ocean's band as musical director, while Sting joined Stewart Copeland and Henri Padovani and formed The Police. That same year, Last Exit played their last concert in Newcastle. In 1996 Sting invited Gerry Richardson to play organ on his album Mercury Falling.

Tunnel Records

Tunnel Records is a record label founded by DJ Dean, and based in Hamburg, Germany. Tunnel Records was home to artists and groups such as X-Dream, DJ Dean, Gollum + Hunter, DJ Yanny, Accuface, Wrong Plane, DJ Shane, DJ Shoko, Waveliner, DJ Krid-Kid, Dj C-Bass & DJ Merlin, Ziggy X, Patrick Bunton, and Gary D.

Since 1997, Tunnel has produced Tunnel Trance Force compilation CDs based on the current "sound of the Tunnel", which refers to music played in the club 'Tunnel', also owned by Tunnel Records and located in Hamburg. Tunnel Records also publishes a number of other trance compilations such as Time Tunnel, Tunnel goes Ibiza, DJ Networx, and Best of Tunnel.

Tunnel Records has two sublabels: Push Up Records and Red Light. Under the latter were released six editions of Tunnel Red Light, techno mixes on CD, from 1996 to 1999.

Safelight

A safelight is a light source suitable for use in a photographic darkroom. It provides illumination only from parts of the visible spectrum to which the photographic material in use is nearly, or completely, insensitive.

Design

A safelight usually consists of an ordinary light bulb in a housing closed off by a coloured filter, but sometimes a special light bulb or fluorescent tube with suitable filter material coated directly on the glass is used in an ordinary fixture.

Differently sensitised materials require different safelights. In traditional black-and-white photographic printing, photographic papers normally are handled under an amber or red safelight, as such papers typically are sensitive only to blue and green light. Orthochromatic papers and films are also sensitive to yellow light and must be used only with a deep red safelight, not with an amber one.Panchromatic films and papers, nominally sensitive to the entire spectrum, sometimes have a region of minimum in their range of sensitivity that allows the careful use of safelight confined to that part of the spectrum, e.g. Kodak Panalure panchromatic paper, tolerant of limited exposure to light filtered through a Kodak 13 Safelight Filter. Other panchromatic materials must be handled only in total darkness.

1, 2, 3, Red Light

1, 2, 3, Red Light, the second album by American bubblegum pop group the 1910 Fruitgum Company, was released six months after their debut album, Simon Says. The title song written by Sal Trimachi and Bobbi Trimachi, was the albums' only hit single for the band, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, with both the album and the single just barely missing the success of their first release.

As with their previous album there has been questions about who played what. Original drummer Floyd Marcus has stated that he still played on the records even when a new drummer, Rusty Oppenheimer, was brought in. This does not seem to be the case for this album, as Oppenheimer receives a writing credit on the album but also does not perform on it as Marcus has explained that a number of session musicians were brought in to record new backing tracks for Mark Gutkowski to sing over while the band was out touring. This is supported by former Super K Productions staff writer and producer, Steve Dworkin, who, in an email to Unofficial 1910 Fruitgum Company Home Page creator Jonathan Gatarz, has listed the names of the session musicians.
