John Ford

John Ford (February 1, 1894 – August 31, 1973) was an American film director. He is renowned both for Westerns such as Stagecoach (1939), The Searchers (1956), and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), as well as adaptations of classic 20th-century American novels such as the film The Grapes of Wrath (1940). His four Academy Awards for Best Director (in 1935, 1940, 1941, and 1952) remain a record. One of the films for which he won the award, How Green Was My Valley, also won Best Picture.

In a career that spanned more than 50 years, Ford directed more than 140 films (although most of his silent films are now lost) and he is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential film-makers of his generation. Ford's work was held in high regard by his colleagues, with Orson Welles and Ingmar Bergman among those who have named him one of the greatest directors of all time.

Ford made frequent use of location shooting and long shots, in which his characters were framed against a vast, harsh and rugged natural terrain.

John Allen Ford (born July 31, 1966) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions. Ford attended the University of Virginia.

John Ford was an American football coach. He served as the fifth head football coach at Marquette University during the 1905 and 1906 seasons. His coaching record at Marquette was 4 wins, 7 losses, and 3 ties. This ranks him 13th at Marquette in total wins and 15th at Marquette in winning percentage (.393). Having been a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (where he played football), Ford was also the first paid coach at Marquette.

John Ford (Oklahoma politician)

John Ford is a Republican politician from Oklahoma who is a member of the Oklahoma Senate. Ford was Majority Caucus Chair for the 2009-2010 legislative sessions.

Early life and career

Prior to his election to the Oklahoma State Senate, John had a 34-year career with Phillips Petroleum Company. Ford has a business degree from the University of Tulsa. He has lived, worked and worshiped in the area for over 40 years. He is a founding member and past president of both the Bartlesville Area Friends of the Parks and the Daybreak Rotary Club.

His wife, Mary, is a past public school teacher. They have two married children, Jennifer and Jack and four grandchildren. John and his wife reside in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and attend the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church.

Political career

Ford was elected to the state Senate on November, 2004, and re-elected without opposition in 2008. His priority issues are education, tort reform, Workers’ Compensation and Highway 60 from Ponca City to Vinita.

John Ford (cricketer)

John Ford (born 5 March 1934) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler who played for Gloucestershire. He was born in Redland.

Ford made a single first-class appearance for the side, during the 1951 season, against Hampshire. From the tailend, he scored a duck in the only innings in which he batted.

Ford played with Gloucestershire Second XI between 1953 and 1956.
