OpenInsight

OpenInsight is a database application development tool from Revelation Software. It was first released in 1992; the current version is 9.4, released in June 2014.

OpenInsight is a windows-based development tool. It contains its own database which is a type of post-relational database known as a MultiValue database. OpenInsight contains tools for creating database applications that can run on Windows workstations, Windows, Linux, and Novell networks, and browser-based applications. The tools include, but are not limited to, a Table Builder, a Database Manager, editor, debugger and programming language, a forms designer for creating data entry forms, User Interface tools, reporting tools, and deployment tools.

OpenInsight's programming language is called Basic+, and is an extension or dialect of the BASIC programming language. OpenInsight applications can use data from Revelation Software's built-in database, or they can use data from SQL Databases, from Rocket Software's Rocket U2 databases, as well as TigerLogic's D3 database.

Basic (dance move)

The basic step, basic movement, basic pattern, or simply basic is the dance move that defines the character of a particular dance. It sets the rhythm of the dance; it is the default move to which a dancer returns, when not performing any other moves. For some dances it is sufficient to know the basic step performed in different handholds and dance positions to enjoy it socially.

Most traditional partner dances have only one basic step which can be easily mastered. Others, such as West Coast Swing, have multiple basic steps, any of which can theoretically be selected by the leader.

Recall (bugle call)

Recall is a bugle call used to signal to soldiers that duties or drills are to cease, or to indicate that a period of relaxation should end. Outside of a military context, it is used to signal when a game should end, such as a game of capture the flag among scouts.

History

Like other bugle calls, "recall" is a short tune that originated as a military signal announcing scheduled and certain non-scheduled events on a military installation, battlefield, or ship. Historically bugle calls indicated the change in daily routines of camp. A defining feature of a bugle call is that it consists only of notes from a single overtone series. This is in fact a requirement if it is to be playable on a bugle or equivalently on a trumpet without moving the valves.

Precision and recall

In pattern recognition and information retrieval with binary classification, precision (also called positive predictive value) is the fraction of retrieved instances that are relevant, while recall (also known as sensitivity) is the fraction of relevant instances that are retrieved. Both precision and recall are therefore based on an understanding and measure of relevance. Suppose a computer program for recognizing dogs in scenes from a video identifies 7 dogs in a scene containing 9 dogs and some cats. If 4 of the identifications are correct, but 3 are actually cats, the program's precision is 4/7 while its recall is 4/9. When a search engine returns 30 pages only 20 of which were relevant while failing to return 40 additional relevant pages, its precision is 20/30 = 2/3 while its recall is 20/60 = 1/3.

So, in this case, precision is 'how useful the search results are', and recall is 'how complete the results are'.

In statistics, if the null hypothesis is that all and only the relevant items are retrieved, absence of type I and type II errors corresponds respectively to maximum precision (no false positive) and maximum recall (no false negative). The above pattern recognition example contained 7 − 4 = 3 type I errors and 9 − 4 = 5 type II errors. Precision can be seen as a measure of exactness or quality, whereas recall is a measure of completeness or quantity.

ReCALL (journal)

ReCALL is an academic journal of the European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning, published by Cambridge University Press. The journal's main focus is the use of technologies for language learning and teaching. It was established in 1989 and previously published by the CTI Centre of the University of Hull. It publishes approximately 20 articles per year. The articles cover various aspects of CALL (computer-assisted language learning) and technology enhanced language learning.
