Sanity

Sanity (from Latin: sānitās) refers to the soundness, rationality and healthiness of the human mind, as opposed to insanity. A person is not considered sane anymore just if he/she is irrational. In modern society, the terms have become exclusively synonymous with compos mentis (Latin: compos, having mastery of, and mentis, mind), in contrast with non compos mentis, or insane, meaning troubled conscience. A sane mind is nowadays considered healthy both from its analytical -once called rational- and emotional aspects. Furthermore, according to Chesterton, sanity involves wholeness, whereas insanity implies narrowness and brokenness.

Sanity (music store)

Sanity is an Australian chain of music and entertainment stores and is the country's second largest retailer of recorded audio and video discs. It is privately owned by Ray Itaoui, and as of March 2015, Sanity comprises 155 outlets in every state and territory. The brand specialises in the sale of CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and related merchandise and accessories, sold from its network of stores and website. The Sanity brand was owned and conceived by Brazin Limited from 1992, before being folded into BB Retail Capital in 2006, then became a company in its own right after it was divested to Itaoui in 2009.

1980s

In 1980, 20-year-old Brett Blundy and a business partner he met from school bought two rundown record stores called Disco Duck. They immediately closed one, combined the stock into the Pakenham store (situated in a small shopping arcade) and reopened as Jetts, selling vinyls and cassettes. The lease for this store was for a three-year period, but it was losing money from day one. Blundy and his partner found another unloved record store a year later, this time within a bigger shopping district at Parkmore Shopping Centre, Keysborough, supported by a larger surrounding population. Before they purchased it, the Parkmore store was turning over $2,000 a week, but six months later as a Jetts outlet, it had increased to $15,000, and was subsidising the failing Pakenham store which was closed once the lease had expired. The Parkmore outlet lasted until 2010 under the Jetts, Delta, and Sanity branding.

Sanity (demogroup)

Sanity was an all-German demo group, formed in March 1990 by Panther and Hawk. The group quickly took in Vindicator and Cruiser as well. Their first production (presumably) was the musicdisk Best Game Music Monthly #1, which announced the birth of the group.

Sanity invented the "rotozoomer" demo effect, a well known demoscene effect.

History

After forming Sanity in 1990, German musician Jester joined the group in November, after a short stay with Red Sector Inc. The demo "Dee Groove" by Panther was released at the Dexion Convention in December. The following year the group released Jester's musicdisk "Fool's Gold", followed by the group's breakthrough demo, "Elysium" which came 3rd in the Amiga Convention Summit demo competition. The Fog joined Bit Arts in the middle of the year.

Sanity competed with the demo World of Commodore to the party with the same name in 1992. This is the first demo to feature the "rotozoomer" effect, a classic demo effect that gained popularity in the 90s up to the modern day.

Reality

Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined. In a wider definition, reality includes everything that is and has been, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible. A still broader definition includes everything that has existed, exists, or will exist.

Philosophers, mathematicians, and other ancient and modern thinkers, such as Aristotle, Plato, Frege, Wittgenstein, and Russell, have made a distinction between thought corresponding to reality, coherent abstractions (thoughts of things that are imaginable but not real), and that which cannot even be rationally thought. By contrast existence is often restricted solely to that which has physical existence or has a direct basis in it in the way that thoughts do in the brain.

Reality is often contrasted with what is imaginary, delusional, (only) in the mind, dreams, what is false, what is fictional, or what is abstract. At the same time, what is abstract plays a role both in everyday life and in academic research. For instance, causality, virtue, life and distributive justice are abstract concepts that can be difficult to define, but they are only rarely equated with pure delusions. Both the existence and reality of abstractions are in dispute: one extreme position regards them as mere words; another position regards them as higher truths than less abstract concepts. This disagreement is the basis of the philosophical problem of universals.

Reality (Monk Montgomery album)

Reality is a 1974 album by jazz bassist Monk Montgomery, one of his four solo albums. It was released on Philadelphia International Records.

Reality (French: Réalité) is a 2014 French-Belgian comedy-drama film written and directed by Quentin Dupieux. The film premiered in the Horizons section at the 71st Venice International Film Festival on 28 August 2014.
