Ray W. Jones

Ray Williams Jones (April 5, 1855 – August 1, 1919) was the 16th Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. Born in Remsen, New York, moved to Minnesota, and became Lieutenant Governor under Governors Samuel Van Sant and John Albert Johnson from January 5, 1903 to January 5, 1907. Married Pauline B. Spitzley. He died in 1919 in Seattle, Washington.

Playing career

Jones joined Burslem Port Vale in August 1905, his debut came in a 3–1 loss at Lincoln City on 2 September 1905. After making just a further three league and two Birmingham Cup appearances he was released at the end of the season.

Playing career

Jones most likely joined Burslem Port Vale in the summer of 1890. He was a regular in his first season, but was selected only intermittently from February 1891. He did manage to make the first 11 in the 1892 Staffordshire Senior Cup winning side though. He was released at the end of the 1892–93 season having made 45 appearances (including one in the Second Division of the Football League, 20 in the Midland League and 21 friendlies) and scored seven goals (three in the Midland League and four in friendlies) for the Vale.
