Ray Robinson (activist)

Ray Robinson (born Perry Ray Robinson; 12 September 1937 – approx. 25 April 1973), was an African-American civil rights activist from Alabama. He had been active in Mississippi and Washington, DC, supporting the March on Washington and the Poor People's Campaign. He disappeared while participating in the 1973 American Indian Movement resistance in the Wounded Knee incident on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

His family never saw him again, and his wife believed he was killed there. She struggled to get Robinson's disappearance investigated. In 2014 the FBI confirmed that Robinson had been killed and buried on the reservation in April 1973; it released redacted documents to the Robinson family under a Freedom of Information Act suit, including redacted interviews with cooperating witnesses. His remains have not been found. The FBI said it had closed his case.

Ray Robinson was born on 12 September 1937 in Bogue Chitto, Alabama. He attended local segregated schools. Strong and athletic, he became a prize fighter.

Ray Robinson (cricket writer)

Raymond John Robinson (8 July 1905–6 July 1982) was an Australian journalist and author, best known for his writings on cricket. Born in Melbourne, Robinson attended Brighton State School and joined the Melbourne Herald as a copyboy. Given a cadetship with the paper, he reported on Australian football and cricket during the early 1920s. In 1925, he wrote to Plum Warner, the editor of The Cricketer magazine, complaining about its poor coverage of Australian cricket. Warner invited him to become the periodical's Australian correspondent, and Robinson continued contributing to it until the early 1980s.

In 1930, Robinson was recruited to the editorial staff of a new daily paper, The Star. Four years later, he accompanied the Australian team on its tour of England. Subsequently, he toured with the Australians in 1948, 1953, 1956 and 1961 (to England); and to South Africa in 1957–58 and the West Indies in 1954–55. He made a number of tours of India and Pakistan, writing for the Times of India and Sportsweek in Mumbai.

Ray Robinson (Somerset cricketer)

Raymond Thomas Robinson, born at Charmouth, Dorset on 15 September 1940 and died at Taunton, Somerset on 13 November 2001, was a cricket and rugby union player. He played cricket for Somerset's second team between 1962 and 1971. But he made only one first-class cricket appearance.

A right-handed middle order batsman and a successful bowler in club and second eleven cricket, Robinson's one first-class appearance was in the match against Nottinghamshire at Taunton in June 1964; he batted at No 8 in Somerset's first innings and at No 5 in the second, but failed to score in either innings, and he did not bowl in the match.

Robinson was a successful rugby union player for Taunton, Somerset and the British Police. His son is Andy Robinson, the former Bath, England and British Lions rugby union player and coach to the England and Scotland teams.

Robinson suffered from multiple sclerosis for 26 years up to his death in 2001.
