Ray Roberts

Herbert Ray Roberts (March 28, 1913 – April 13, 1992) represented Texas's 4th congressional district from 1962 to 1981. Roberts was a Democrat.

Early life and education

Roberts was born in rural Collin County, Texas in 1913. He grew up in the ranching town of Westminster, Texas, just outside McKinney.

Roberts graduated from McKinney High School. He attended Texas A&M University and North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) before earning a bachelor's degree in agribusiness. Roberts earned his master's degree from the University of Texas. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 and later saw active duty in the Korean War while as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Early career

Roberts was on the staff of Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn of Texas, working in Washington, D.C., between 1941 and 1942 before going on active duty in World War II. After the war, he worked as a farmer and entered into agribusiness. He was a member of the Texas State Senate from 1955 to 1961, serving as the president pro tempore of the body in 1961.

Ray Roberts (American football)

Richard Ray Roberts, Jr. (born June 3, 1969 in Asheville, North Carolina) is a retired American professional football player. He played nine seasons in the National Football League as an offensive tackle.

Roberts graduated from Asheville High School in 1987 and played college football at Virginia, where he won the Jacobs Trophy in 1990 & 1991 as the ACC's top blocker.

At 6'6" and over 300 lb., he was the tenth overall selection in the 1992 NFL Draft, taken by the Seattle Seahawks. After four seasons in Seattle, he finished his career with the Detroit Lions.

Following his playing career, Roberts returned to the Seattle area and was an assistant football coach at Interlake High School in Bellevue. He earned a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from the University of Washington in 2007. Roberts also worked as a diversity specialist at Microsoft and did local sports radio for the Seahawks. He became the head coach at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland in 2008, and resigned in June 2010 after posting consecutive 1-8 seasons.

Ray Roberts (baseball)

Raymond "Ray" Roberts (August 25, 1895 to January 30, 1962), was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played from 1919 - 1928 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and many other minor, and major league franchises. He started his basbeball career in Atlanta with the Crackers following serving in World War One. He batted left and threw right-handed.

He was born and died in Cruger, Mississippi.
