Rave

A rave (from the verb: to rave) is a large dance party featuring performances by DJs and occasionally live performers playing electronic music, particularly electronic dance music (EDM). The music is amplified with a large, powerful sound reinforcement system, typically with large subwoofers to produce a deep bass sound. The music is accompanied by laser light shows, projected images, visual effects and fog machines. The word "rave" was first used in the late 1980s to describe the subculture that grew out of the acid house movement.

While some raves may be small parties held at nightclubs or private residences, some raves have grown to immense size, such as the Castlemorton Common Festival in 1992. Some electronic dance music festivals have features of raves, but on a large, often commercial scale. Raves may last for a long time, with some events continuing for ten hours. Due to the association of illegal party drugs such as MDMA (ecstasy) and the use of non-authorized, secret venues for some raves, such as squat parties at warehouses, law enforcement attention has been directed at the rave scene in many countries.

Rave is an American film written and directed by Ron Kraussand starring Efren Ramirez, Douglas Spain, Aimee Graham, Nicholle Tom, Dante Basco and Franco Vega.

Plot

It is Saturday night in Los Angeles and six teenagers are in search of the hottest rave in the city. In one day, we see a portrait of these teenagers finding their way through all the temptations, attractions and dangers of the wild underbelly of Los Angeles.

Rave is an Indian music magazine, launched in March 2002. It was modeled on Rolling Stones magazine. The magazine is published by Soul City Publications ten times per year. In 2004 the US edition began to be published. Its online edition was started in August 2007.

Rave (board game)

Rave is a board game that was created by WOW Enterprises in 1991. The game is based on the subcultural dance movement of the early 1990s.

The game was created by Patrick Treloar (MD of Wow Enterprises) and designed by The Style Bandits (amongst others) Gregg Jones helped paying for it. It contains a section designed by Jamie Hewlett of Gorillaz and Tank Girl fame. It went on to sell over 20,000 copies until it was withdrawn from the shelves by WH Smith when the store was made aware of its overtly adult content.

The idea of the game was to drive around looking for fliers and energi [sic] tablets. Once the player had accumulated enough energi tablets, they could then proceed to their rave and dance, until they collected all three sections of the WOW Tryptich.

WOW Enterprises are now engaged in the design and creation of an MMORPG based around the game.

Scene (subculture)

The scene subculture is a contemporary subculture which has been common in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America from the late 2000s until the mid 2010s. People (most often in their teens to 20s) involved in this style are called "scene people," "scene kids," "trendies" or sometimes "scenesters" in the US, "moshers," "chavmos," or "chemos" in the UK, "coloridos" in Latin America, and "shamate" in China.

Origins (late 1990s to early 2000s)

The scene subculture began in United Kingdom during the late 1990s and early 2000s when some members of the chav subculture began to experiment with alternative fashion, and took fashionable characteristics of indie pop, emo, rave music, and punk fashions. The fashion originally included typical pop punk and skater clothing like tripp pants, stripes, tartan, spiky hair, Chucks, Vans, and trucker hats derived from grunge and skate punk fashion. Older punks and skaters, however, looked down on these young trendies (as they were then called) for their inauthenticity and inability to skate.

Scene (UK TV series)

Scene is a British television anthology drama/documentary series made by the BBC for teenagers. Featuring plays on topical issues as well as documentaries, sometimes of a controversial nature, and by leading contemporary playwrights, programs were originally broadcast to a school audience as part of the BBC Schools strand. Dramas from the series were also regularly broadcast for a wider adult audience. The series ran episodically from 1968 to 2002 and some of the dramas went on to receive critical acclaim, nominations and awards including five in 1996–97 and a Prix Jeunesse in 1998 under series producer Andy Rowley (see below).

Scene was originally conceived as a series of 30 minute dramas and documentaries suitable for showing to teenage schoolchildren as part of the English and Humanities curriculum. It was envisaged that the dramas shown would stimulate discussion in the classroom about various contemporary issues relevant to teenagers (such as race, drugs, sex, disability etc.). Critical reaction was positive with praise for the high production standards.
