Randy Williams

Randel Luvelle Williams (born August 23, 1953) is an American athlete. He mainly competed in the long jump, in which he won a gold medal at the 1972 Olympics and a silver in 1976. His 1972 winning jump of 8.34 m (27–4½) set the world junior record that stood for almost 40 years until it was improved by 1 cm by Sergey Morgunov on June 20, 2012. At the time it was the longest standing record on the books.

Williams attended the University of Southern California. In high school, Williams attended Edison High School in Fresno. At the CIF California State Meet in 1969 he finished third, behind future rival James McAlister, in 1970 he finished second behind future NFL star, Lynn Swann and in 1971, he won the meet in what would have clearly been a meet record, had it not been wind aided.

In 2009, Williams was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Randall Duane Williams (born September 18, 1975, in Harlingen, Texas) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. He played with the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball from 2004–2010. Williams played college baseball for the Lamar University Cardinals.

Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft, Williams was released by the Cubs on March 24, 2001. He played all of 2002 with the independent Central Baseball League for the Edinburg Roadrunners. In 42 games, he had a 1.42 ERA and 77 strikeouts. On September 30, 2002, he signed with the Seattle Mariners and made his major league debut on September 11, 2004. He appeared in 6 games for the Mariners in 2004 and during the offseason, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for Billy Hogan. After appearing in just 2 games for the Padres in 2005, he was claimed off waivers by the Colorado Rockies. He went 2-1 with the Rockies the rest of the season and had a 5.73 ERA. He became a free agent at the end of the season.
