Rajsamand

Rajsamand is a town of Rajasthan state of western India. The city is named for Rajsamand Lake, an artificial lake created in the 17th century by Rana Raj Singh of Mewar. It is the administrative headquarters of Rajsamand District.

Geography

Rajsamand is located at 25°04′N 73°53′E / 25.07°N 73.88°E / 25.07; 73.88. It has an average elevation of 547 metres (1794 ft).

Demographics

Total population of the Rajsamand district is 9,87,024 of which 4,93,459 male and 4,93,565 female. This district has a male to female ratio of 1000:1000. Rajsamand has an average literacy rate of 67%, male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 57%. In Rajsamand, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Economy

Although most of the economy of Rajasthan is based on agriculture, this part of the state is rich in mineral resources. The area is one of the prime Indian suppliers of marble, granite and other valuable varieties of stone. The Dariba and Jawar mines are the principal Indian sources of ores for zinc, silver, manganese, etc. Majority of the population is engaged in organised and unorganised mining-related works. People are also engaged in tyre and tobacco factories established here

Rajsamand (Lok Sabha constituency)

Rajsamand Lok Sabha constituency (Hindi: राजसमंद लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is one of the 25 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Rajasthan state in western India. This constituency came into existence in 2008 as a part of the implementation of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, based on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India constituted in 2002.

Presently, Rajsamand Lok Sabha constituency comprises eight Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments. These are:

Four assembly segments - Bhim, Kumbhalgarh, Rajsamand and Nathdwara were earlier in erstwhile Udaipur constituency. Two assembly segments - Merta and Degana were earlier in erstwhile Nagaur constituency. Beawar and Jaitaran assembly segments were earlier in erstwhile Ajmer and Pali constituencies respectively.
