This article is about the Italian radio station Radio 2. For other radio stations of that name, see Radio 2 (disambiguation).
Rai Radio 2 (radio due) is an Italian radio channel operated by the state-owned public-broadcasting organization RAI and specializing in talk programmes and popular music.
The origins of the channel can be traced back to 21 March 1938, when the EIAR – which was to become Radio Audizioni Italiane (RAI) in 1944 – began transmitting a second, separately programmed radio service in major cities.
Following the end of World War II and reconstruction and improvement of the surviving transmitter network, radio broadcasting was reorganized (with effect from 3 November 1946) to provide two national channels covering most of the country. The first channel was known as the Rete Rossa (red network) and the second as the Rete Azzurra (blue network). These "neutral" names were chosen to imply that, while at any one time each channel aimed to provide programming of a contrasting style to that available on the other, the two channels were nominally equal in status and had an equally wide-ranging remit.
Radio 2 was a narrowband Australian radio network owned and operated by WorldAudio Limited. The network was broadcast on frequencies between 1611 and 1629 kHz via a series of 50 AM transmitters across Australia, as well as by satellite (including through Austar and Foxtel) and through the network's website.
Radio 2 began in Blacktown, New South Wales in Western Sydney on 1611 AM in October 2001, broadcasting under a Section 40 license - meaning it could only operate on narrowband AM frequencies (1611–1701 kHz), and with narrow spectrum - 5 kHz, rather than the full 9 kHz which other commercial radio stations use. Branded "The New Voice Of Western Sydney", the station focused on live and local content, similar to 2WS in its heyday.
In 2002, Radio 2 was a broadcast partner of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, broadcasting live coverage of matches, with the call lead by Colin Turner. In 2003, Radio 2 was a broadcast partner of the AFL, hosting live coverage of Sydney Swans home games from the SCG and Telstra Stadium.
NPO Radio 2 is a public-service radio station in the Netherlands, broadcasting chiefly classic hits. It is part of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system, NPO.
The origins of the station go back to "Hilversum 1", launched in 1947. The name change to "Radio 2" took place in 1985. In 2014, the name was changed to "NPO Radio 2".
The primary target audience comprises listeners aged between 40 and 54. Much of the music played comes from the 1970s, 1980s and the 1990s, though the schedule also incorporates "evergreen numbers" from the 1960s.
NPO Radio 2 is also known for its annual Radio 2 Top 2000 presentation, broadcast since 1999 continuously from Christmas Day till New Year's Day 0:00 CET "the 2000 best songs ever made" voted by the listeners.
As of 2012, the following broadcasting organizations participate in the production of NPO Radio 2's programming:
"Chubbie Chumps" is an episode of the award-winning British comedy television series The Goodies.
This episode is also known as "Radio 2" and "The Beauty Contest" as well as "Housewives" and "Miss Housewife".
Written by The Goodies, with songs and music by Bill Oddie.
Graeme and Bill return from their fishing trip to discover that the office wasn't completely clean and Tim has become obese through eating huge amounts of lard. Tim has also taken to listening to a radio show which, it turns out, is also listened to by a lot of housewives (all of whom have also become obese), and this leads the group (Tim included) to a health club, where they slim down again.
Meanwhile Bill and Graeme are cleaning the office themselves, before Tim comes back from the health club. They find that Tim is slim again with a feminine look. Tim continues listening to the radio and the disc jockey announces a Beauty pageant for housewives, called Miss Housewife of the Year, on Friday night at the Royal Albert Hall. Tim enters the contest, but Graeme forbids him to go to the pageant because he's not a housewife - not even a miss - but it's no use. Tim walks off to make himself pretty for the pageant because he won't listen to his friends. When Graeme telephones the radio station, the disc jockey says "Hello Darling?" Graeme answers back "Don't you Darling me, Mate!" and makes the disc jockey accidentally admit why he doesn't want any fat women in the pageant, leading to the disc jockey getting fired for his comments. When the BBC makes an announcement for hiring a new disc jockey to take the previous disc jockey's place, Graeme has an idea to change the Beauty Pageant and takes the job.

The term rai in Slavic languages is a term for a heavenly or earthly paradise. In some of these languages the term is a synonym with the Greco-Persian term paradise.
The etymology of Common Slavic rai is disputed. It is now generally regarded as a direct borrowing from Iranian ray, "heavenly radiance, beatitude". If so then two Persian words ray ("radiance") and pardeis ("park") both separately passed into some Slavic languages; for example Russian where "paradise" is generally rai (Рай) but paradiz (Парадиз) from English is also encountered. Alternative derivations have included:
The term passed from Slavic usage into Romanian.
Usage of rai in Slavic languages differs from that of "paradise" in Western languages due in part to the influence of Old Church Slavonic versions of the Bible, which were translated from the Greek Septuagint. This influence is felt even in Protestant Slavic traditions such as Czech:
A rai (Thai: ไร่ [râj]) is a unit of area, equal to 1 square sen (เส้น) or 1,600 square metres (40 m × 40 m), and is used in measuring land area for a cadastre or cadastral map. Its current size is precisely derived from the metre, but is neither part of nor recognized by the modern metric system, the International System (SI).
The rai equals 4 ngaan (Thai: งาน [ŋāːn]) or 400 tarangwa (Thai: ตารางวา [tāː.rāːŋ wāː]) aka square wa. The rai equals 0.3954 acres.
It is commonly used in Thailand and equals 16 ares, another unit that is based on the metre and commonly used in several countries. Although recognized by the SI, its use is not encouraged. The word also means plantation.
Meet me at midnight
At the broadcast tower
High above the hollywood sign
You bring your guitar and I'll bring my radio (radio)
Everyone will come from miles around
To witness this beautiful site
We'll set bonfires and pretend its the 4th of July
This is the starting of a brand new revolution
Bite the hand that feeds
Stand up and fight against messages that they're sending
Stop their frequency
You're always talkin' (its never ending)
It's about time that we turned off the radio
Call the request lines and tell them that it's over
You're always playin' all of the same songs
Over and over again
It's about time that we all turned off the radio
We'll listen to b-sides and sing along
To anthems of the years gone by
Integrity and honesty will prevail tonight
When it's all over (when it's all over)
One question still remains
Why do so many bands never make it to the radio?
[chorus]
Look outside your FM dial
They're preaching lies in 4/4 time
A generation without a voice
It's stripped of pride
