Raghopur, Vaishali

Raghopur is a community development block in Vaishali district of Bihar. Situated between two streams of the Ganges river, it is a river island. It is connected to Patna by Pipa pul.

Geography

Surrounded by the Ganges on all sides, Raghopur consists mainly of alluvial soil. Every year this area gets submerged by water due to flood by the Ganges. This has been helpful to Raghopur in way that flood also brings new layer of soil that makes this area fertile.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Raghopur had a population of 187,722. Males constitute 54% of the population. Raghopur has an average literacy rate of 33%. The villages in Raghopur includes Paharpur, Jurawanpur, Fatehpur, Birpur, Chaksingar, Rampur, Shiv Nagar etc.Among all Birpur is the largest village in this Block, people of this village are migrant Rjaputs from Rajsthan during Mugal Period. Birpur village named upon one of those migrant called Bir Singh from Jhodhpur. They all are from the same clan of Rathod(rathore)of Jhodhpur(Mewar).

Raghopur, Supaul (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Raghopur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: राघोपुर विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) was an assembly constituency in Supaul district in the Indian state of Bihar.

As a consequence of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, Raghopur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) ceased to exist in 2010.

Results

1977-2005

In the October 2005 and February 2005 state assembly elections, Niraj Kumar Singh Bablu of JD(U) won the Raghopur assembly seat defeating his nearest rivals Jai Vardhan Yadav of Congress and Md. Zeayuddin of BSP, respectively. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Uday Prasad Goit of Rashtriya Janata Dal defeated Lakhan Thakur of JD(U) in 2000. Lakhan Thakur of JD defeated Amarendra Mishra of Congress in 1995. Amarendra Mishra of Congress defeated Udai Prakash Goit of JD in 1990, Aseshwar Goit of LD in 1985 and Kumar Sashindra Singh, Independent, in 1980. Asehswar Goit of JP defeated Amarendra Mishra of Congress in 1977.
