Houston-Galveston Area Council 2035 Regional Transportation Plan

The H-GAC 2035 Regional Transportation Plan (H-GAC 2035 RTP) is the long range transportation plan for the Houston-Galveston Area and serves as blueprint for further planning to be undertaken in the region over the next 30 years. The plan which was developed in a joint cooperation with Cities, Counties, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and METRO. The RTP combines research, plans and programs by various organizations into one comprehensive plan which is updated every four years. The RTP's main aim is to identify long-range transportation needs, prioritize programs and projects and to provide a forum for dialogue and regional problem solving.

The Houston-Galveston Area is one of the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States, with a projected rise in the region's population by 3 million and the creation of 1.5 million new jobs. It is estimated that this growth will create a demand for 1.7 million new homes in the region. The rapid expansion of the region will lead to a heavy drain on the current infrastructure and adequate planning must be undertaken to ensure safe and attractive communities, good schools and a transportation system that provides easy access for residents across the region.

Rádio e Televisão de Portugal

Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, S.A. (RTP; Portuguese for Radio and Television of Portugal) is the public service broadcasting organization of Portugal. It operates four television channels (two are on terrestrial) and three national radio channels, as well as several satellite and cable offerings.

The company came into effect on 31 March 2004 with the merger of two previously separate companies Radiodifusão Portuguesa (RDP; the radio broadcaster) and Radiotelevisão Portuguesa (television broadcaster).

RTP is a state-owned corporation funded by television advertising revenues, government grants, and the taxa de contribuição audiovisual (broadcasting contribution tax), which is incorporated in electricity bills.

History

Radio

The Emissora Nacional de Radiodifusão (ENR) was established on 4 August 1935 as the public national radio broadcaster, inheriting the previous broadcasting operations of the national postal service, Correios, Telégrafos e Telefones (CTT). Five years later, ENR became independent of the CTT.

RTP1

RTP1 is the main television channel of Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, the Portuguese public broadcasting corporation. Portugal's first channel, RTP1 was launched in 1957 as RTP. For a brief period it was known and marketed as Canal 1 (Channel 1); it is still commonly called this. It is one of the most watched television networks in the country. The channel became a 24-hour service in 2002, although it now leases its graveyard slot (3:56am to 5:59am) to the infomercial producer and direct-response marketer, A Loja Em Casa (in turn owned by El Corte Inglés). Up until that point, RTP1 closed down with the national anthem, but this practice stopped not too long before infomercials filled the overnight slots.

RTP1 has a variety of programs, composed mainly of news and talk-shows, sports, current affairs, national and international fiction, such as films and TV series. Unlike sister channel RTP2, RTP1 broadcasts commercial advertising, which, along with the licence fee, finances the channel.
