Adult

Biologically, an adult is a human being or other organism that has reached sexual maturity. In human context, the term adult additionally has meanings associated with social and legal concepts. In contrast to a "minor", a legal adult is a person who has attained the age of majority and is therefore regarded as independent, self-sufficient, and responsible.

Human adulthood encompasses psychological adult development. Definitions of adulthood are often inconsistent and contradictory; a person may be biologically an adult, and have adult behavior but still be treated as a child if they are under the legal age of majority. Conversely, one may legally be an adult but possess none of the maturity and responsibility that may define an adult character.

In different cultures there are events that relate passing from being a child to becoming an adult or coming of age. This often encompasses the passing a series of tests to demonstrate that a person is prepared for adulthood, or reaching a specified age, sometimes in conjunction with demonstrating preparation. Most modern societies determine legal adulthood based on reaching a legally specified age without requiring a demonstration of physical maturity or preparation for adulthood.

Adult (band)

Adult (stylized as ADULT.) is an American band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1998. The band integrates vocals with drum machines, analog synthesizers and electronic/punk elements. While popular in their home city of Detroit, they are also very popular in Germany and the United Kingdom.

History

Adult began releasing albums in 1998 under the pseudonym Plasma Co. Initially, the band members were uncredited and not publicized, but by the time Anxiety Always was released, Adult was listed as husband-and-wife team Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus. Miller and Kuperus are also the founders of the Ersatz Audio record label. When launching their tour in support of the D.U.M.E. EP, Adult announced that they had become a trio with the addition of guitarist Samuel Consiglio. The trio was short-lived – Consiglio left the band at the start of 2006.

Adult gained popularity while touring constantly in the United States and releasing all of their material independently. They toured with Trans Am in 2002, and in May 2003, the band made its first headlining tour in the United States; gigs across Europe followed soon after.

Adult (album)

Adult (大人(アダルト)), a.k.a. Otona is the second studio album by Japanese alternative rock band Tokyo Jihen, released on January 25, 2006 in Japan through Toshiba EMI/ Virgin Music. The album was produced by the band and Japanese recording engineer Uni Inoue. The album reached number one on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart on February 6, 2006.

Background

Adult marked the debut for guitarist Ukigumo and keyboardist Ichiyō Izawa, who joined Tokyo Jihen after the departure of previous members Mikio Hirama and H Zett M (Masayuki Hiizumi). Ringo Sheena, Ichiyō Izawa and Ukigumo played a key role in this album and arranged songs while arguing. About Shuraba, Sheena arranged the single version mainly, but, obeying Sheena’s wishes of not wanting to record the single version on the album as it is, Sheena, Izawa and Ukigumo re-arranged it based on the latter's proposal.

In 2008, "Keshō Naoshi" was covered in Portuguese by Kaori Hayato on her first album Pluma, and in concert by Kiyoshi Hasegawa, the recording of which was featured on his 40th anniversary album 40nen. Mada Kore ga Best de wa Nai..

Rás Tailteann (pronounced [ˈɾˠaːsˠ ˈt̪ˠ alʲtʲənˠ], "Tailteann Race"), known for sponsorship reasons as the An Post Rás or the Rás for short, is an annual 8-day international cycling stage race, held in Ireland in May. Around Ireland, the race is referred to as The Rás. By naming the race Rás Tailteann the original organisers, members of the National Cycling Association (NCA), were associating the cycle race with the Tailteann Games an ancient Celtic sporting event in Ireland.

The event was founded by Joe Christle in 1953 and was organised under the rules of the Republican-influenced organisation — the National Cycling Association (NCA). At that time competitive cycling in Ireland was deeply divided between three cycling organisations, the NCA, Cumann Rothaiochta na hEireann (CRE) and the Northern Ireland Cycling Federation (NICF) due to the issue of nationalism and the division of Ireland into Northern Ireland and the Republic. The NCA wished for a United Ireland and refused to recognise Northern Ireland or to confine their jurisdiction to the Republic of Ireland. The Rás Tailteann was the biggest race that the NCA organised each year.
