Cox (surname)

The surname Cox is of English or Welsh origin, and may have originated independently in several places in Great Britain, with the variations arriving at a standard spelling only later. There are also two native Irish surnames which were anglicised into Cox.

An early record of the surname dates from 1556 with the marriage of Alicea Cox at St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London. Cox is the 69th-most common surname in the United Kingdom.

Origin

One possibility of the origin is that it is a version of the Old English cocc which means "the little", and was sometimes put after the name of a leader or chieftain as a term of endearment. Surnames such as Wilcox, Willcocks and Willcox are examples of this practice: all are composed of the name William and the archaic word cocc, coming together to mean "little William". The suggestion is that only the element -cox may have endured as a surname for some families.

Another opinion is that the name is derived from the Old English cock, which means a "heap" or "mound", and was a topographic name for a man living near any heap, hill or other bundle. Names like Haycock or Haycox come from such practice, meaning from "the hay mounds" or "the hay fields". Again, the element -cox may have only been carried on in some families.

Kiruba, debut album of the same name Ecuadorian pop group, released in May 2003. The first single, Quisiera (I Wish), released a month earlier, gained immediate acceptance from the public, not only nationally but also internationally. This album became one of the best selling in the history of Ecuador, with more than 15 thousand copies sold them earned double platinum disc for they label, granted, MTM Records.

The album was recorded in Audiovision Studios in Bogotá (Colombia) for almost the entire month of February 2003 under the leadership of Javier Jara, who had also worked with Shakira, Carlos Vives and Colombian Popstars: Escarcha. Production was in charge of the Ecuadorians: Eduardo de Narvaez and Fredy Camelo, while authors of some singles of the disc.

The singles from this album were Quisiera (I Wish), Camina (Walk), Como Extraño Tu Luz (How I'm Missing Your Light), and Me Pierdo (Losing Myself). All of these reached the top on lists of Ecuador and Quisiera (I Wish) came to fifteenth in the counting top of TV channel of Latin music HTV.

Emmanuel (singer)

Emmanuel (born Jesús Emmanuel Acha Martinez, April 16, 1955, in Mexico City) is the top Mexican singer who debuted in the 1970s.

He is the son of the late Argentinian-born bullfighter Raúl Acha "Rovira". His father a professional bullfighter in Plazo de Acho in Lima, Peru. Emanuel grew up in Chosica, Peru on Avenida Lima near el Parque Echenique and attended el Colegio Santa Rosa. His first wife, Spanish singer Conchita Martínez.

Emmanuel's songs are usually ballads, which became popular during the 1980s. His fourth and most successful album to date, Íntimamente (Intimately), was written by the famous Spaniard ballad composer Manuel Alejandro in collaboration with Ana Magdalena.
