John S. Ragin

John Stanley Ragin (May 5, 1929 - April 14, 2013) was an American actor. He was best known for his role as uptight bureaucratic Dr. Robert Asten, M.E. in the TV series Quincy, M.E. (1976–83).

Ragin appeared in mostly smaller supporting roles in television series such as in Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Invaders, Star Trek: The Next Generation and smaller roles in movies such as Earthquake and The Parallax View.

He played Walter Cramer in the 1974 TV series "Sons and Daughters". He had a short-term stint as Dr. Grant Jameson on the daytime soap opera Santa Barbara in 1990 and again in 1991. Ragin died on April 14, 2013 at age 83.

Robert Ito

Robert Ito (born July 2, 1931) is a Canadian-born voice, television, and movie actor of Japanese descent who is perhaps best known to television viewers for his roles as Sam Fujiyama on the NBC-TV series Quincy, M.E. and Lawrence 'Larry' Mishima on the CBS-TV night time soap opera series Falcon Crest.

Career

Ito was for many years a dancer with the National Ballet of Canada before turning to acting in the mid-1960s. With a long list of performing credits to his name, he is probably best known for his seven-year role on Quincy, M.E. as forensic lab technician Sam Fujiyama. He also appeared three times (as different characters) in the 1970s TV series Kung Fu; first as a Chinese rail worker in the 2 hour movie that launched the series, then twice in regular hour-long episodes, once as a Chinese bandit named Captain Lee in the episode "The Way of Violence Has No Mind" & another time as a Japanese Ninja in the episode entitled "The Assassin". He likewise portrayed two different Korean characters in separate episodes of M*A*S*H in 1972 and 1976.

Garry Walberg

Garry Walberg (June 10, 1921 – March 27, 2012) was an American character actor primarily known for his work on television. He performed in numerous TV shows beginning in the early 1950s, including Johnny Staccato, Lassie, Peyton Place, The Fugitive and Star Trek TOS. He appeared in the first episode of The Twilight Zone, entitled "Where Is Everybody?".

The Buffalo, New York-born Walberg was probably best known for his role as LAPD Homicide Lt. Frank Monahan in Quincy, M.E. (1976–83), starring Jack Klugman in the title role. Walberg had previously appeared alongside Klugman in The Odd Couple (1970–75) as Oscar's poker crony, Homer "Speed" Deegan. He reprised the role in the 1993 TV movie The Odd Couple: Together Again.

Death

Walberg died from chronic pulmonary disease on March 26, 2012, aged 90, in Northridge, California.

Quincy, M.E. (also called Quincy) is an American medical mystery-drama television series from Universal Studios that aired from 1976 to 1983 on NBC. It stars Jack Klugman in the title role, a Los Angeles County medical examiner.

Inspired by the book Where Death Delights by Marshall Houts, a former FBI agent, the show also resembled the earlier Canadian television series Wojeck, broadcast by CBC Television.John Vernon, who played the Wojeck title role, later guest starred in the third-season episode "Requiem For The Living". Quincy's character is loosely modelled on Los Angeles' "Coroner to the Stars" Thomas Noguchi.

The first half of the first season of Quincy was broadcast as 90-minute telefilms as part of the NBC Sunday Mystery Movie rotation in the fall of 1976 alongside Columbo, McCloud, and McMillan (formerly McMillan & Wife). The series proved popular enough that midway through the 1976–1977 season, Quincy was spun off into its own weekly one-hour series. The Mystery Movie format was discontinued in the spring of 1977.

Jack Klugman

Jack Klugman (April 27, 1922 – December 24, 2012) was an American stage, film and television actor.

Klugman began his career in 1950. He later moved on to television and film work with roles in 12 Angry Men (1957) and Cry Terror! (1958). During the 1960s, he guest-starred on numerous television series. Klugman won his first Primetime Emmy Award for his guest-starring role on The Defenders, in 1964. He also made a total of four appearances on The Twilight Zone from 1960 to 1963.

In 1970, Klugman reprised his Broadway role of Oscar Madison in the television adaptation of The Odd Couple, opposite Tony Randall. The series aired from 1970 to 1975. Klugman won his second and third Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for his work on the series. From 1976 to 1983, he starred in the title role in Quincy, M.E. for which he earned four Primetime Emmy Award nominations. In 1985 he appeared in an episode of The Love Boat entitled "Scandinavian Cruise" parts 1 & 2.

A longtime smoker, Klugman was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1974. The cancer returned in 1989. During the course of treatment, Klugman lost a vocal cord which left him with a raspy voice.
