Quincy AOC

Quincy is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) in the Loire Valley wine region of France which produces dry white wine. It grows in two communes: Quincy and Brinay in the department of Cher.

History

Antiquity

The etymology of Quincy is thought to come from the Roman name, domaine de Quintius. The Bituriges cultivated the land since ancient times.

Middle-Ages

In 1120, the wine of Quincy was named in a speech by Pope Calixtus II and the Sauvignon blanc introduced by the monks at Cîteaux Abbey.

Contemporary Times

After the consecutive replanting of the vineyards because of the Phylloxera epidemic, Quincy was the first commune to be awarded an AOC in this part of the Loire region, on 6 August 1936.

Localisation

The Quincy vineyard is situated in the Champagne bérrichonnein the Cher department, between Bourges and Vierzon. It is planted on a plateau of the right bank of the river Cher. Extending from North to South, the East side of it is exposed, divided between the communes of Quincy and Brinay.

Quincy Owusu-Abeyie

Quincy James Owusu-Abeyie (born 15 April 1986), often known simply by his first name, Quincy, is a Ghana international footballer. He plays as a forward or left winger.

He was born in the Netherlands, and played international football for his country of birth at youth level, but in 2007 requested to become eligible to represent his parents' country, Ghana, instead.FIFA approved his request on 10 January 2008, just ahead of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.

Club career

Early career and AFC Ajax

Quincy was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Ghanaian parents, Quincy had been a member of the youth system at hometown club Ajax for nine years when he was released at the age of 16 because of attitude problems.

Arsenal

Liam Brady, head of youth development at Premier League club Arsenal, offered him a trial which proved successful, and the player joined Arsenal as a scholar in September 2002. In the 2002–03 season he scored 17 goals in 20 games for the under-17 side, including six in a 7–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers under-17. Handed his first professional contract on his 18th birthday – a move which led to Arsenal being fined £10,000 and given a suspended two-year transfer ban for inadvertently dealing with an unlicensed agent – Quincy signed a new long-term contract in July 2005.
