QED (band)

QED were an Australian New Wave trio, whose lead singer, Jenny Morris, went on to achieve commercial success as a solo artist. The band had a top twenty hit single, "Everywhere I Go", on the Australian Kent Music Report in 1983.

History

In February 1981, New Zealand band, The Crocodiles relocated to Sydney and soon disbanded. In late 1983, The Crocodiles' lead vocalist, Jenny Morris, formed QED in Sydney with guitarist Rex Goh (ex-Air Supply), bassist Ian Belton (ex-Dave Dobbyn, Renée Geyer)., and drummer Shane Flew. The trio signed with EMI Australia and were produced by Mark Moffatt (The Saints, Mondo Rock, Tim Finn) and Ricky Fataar (Geyer, Finn, Kids in the Kitchen). QED recorded some of The Crocodiles' material including, "Everywhere I Go", "Animal Magic" and "You're So Hip"; Morris also co-wrote new songs with Goh. Their debut single, "Everywhere I Go", was released in December, which peaked at No. 19 on the national chart. QED performed it on Countdown on 1 April 1984. The follow-up single "Solo and More" was issued in March, but failed to chart. The third single, "This One", appeared in August and reached No. 45 on the national singles charts. Additional musicians for QED’s first album, Animal Magic, included keyboardist Amanda Vincent (Eurogliders, who later joined the Jenny Morris band), drummer Steve Fearnly, saxophonist Tony Buchanan, and Fataar on drums. EMI released it in November 1984, but sales remained low and the album did not chart. QED only released one album and disbanded by 1985, Morris continued session / touring work with other artists, Belton went on to join Mondo Rock, and Goh to Eurogliders. Morris later had a successful solo career.

+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an American indietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.

!!! is a dance-punk band that formed in Sacramento, California, in 1996 by lead singer Nic Offer. Its name is most commonly pronounced "Chk Chk Chk" ([/tʃk.tʃk.tʃk/]). Members of !!! came from other local bands such as The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. They are currently based in New York City, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon. The band's sixth full-length album, As If, was released in October 2015.

Background and history

!!! is an American band formed in the summer of 1995 by the merger of part of the group Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. After a successful joint tour, these two teams decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Nic Offer from the The Yah Mos. The band's name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens' Khoisan language were represented as "!". However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. "Chk Chk Chk" is the most common pronunciation, which the URL of their official website and the title of their Myspace page suggest is the preferred pronunciation.

QED International is an American based film production studio, financier and international distributor, best known for financing and producing 2014 films Sabotage and Fury.

History

Bill Block formed QED in 2002 as CEO. In May of 2012, Media Content Capital, an Anton Lessine and Sasha Shapiro global media fund, gained a controlling interest in QED through QED Holdings with an eight figure investment.

Before 2013, Paul Hanson, as COO, was involved in all aspects of the company overseeing film financing, production, and distribution.

On February 24, 2015, Deadline confirmed that CEO Bill Block had officially left the post from the company to join a new company Merced Media. This allowed Lessine and Shapiro to operate QED International under QED Holdings as its principal financiers through the global media fund, Media Content Capital (McC).

Q.E.D. (manga)

Q.E.D. (Japanese: Q.E.D. 証明終了, Hepburn: Q.E.D. Shomei Shuuryou) is a detective manga, created and produced by Motohiro Katou. Sou Touma is a university graduate who encounters a variety of investigative cases after returning to Japan from the US. He works with his friend, Kana Mizuhara, combining his deductive skills with Mizuhara's social gifts.

Q.E.D. has sold over 3 million copies in Japan and has been adapted as a live-action TV series.

Development

The manga was first serialised in Magazine GREAT in 1997, and continued as a Magazine E-no segment in 2009 after Magazine GREAT's cessation. Currently, Q.E.D. is serialized in Magazine Plus, and, as of October 2014, 49 volumes of tankōbon have been released.

Generally, each volume has two cases, both of which are solved at the end. As of March 2012, there was only one full-length case that had spanned an entire volume which flashbacked to Sou's time studying at MIT in the US.
