Pure Love

"Pure Love" is a song recorded by American country music singer Ronnie Milsap. It was released in March 1974 as the first single and title track from the album Pure Love. The song was Milsap's first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in the late spring of the year. Although Milsap had two previous top 15 hits—"I Hate You" and "That Girl Who Waits on Tables," both 1973—"Pure Love" is largely credited as being his career-breaking hit.

The song also marked the first country chart-topping single by its writer, Eddie Rabbitt, who had tasted previous success with 1970's "Kentucky Rain" by Elvis Presley. In the song, Rabbitt compares "pure love" to such things as milk, honey and the Cap'n Crunch breakfast cereal, before pointing out that the love shared between the protagonist and his/her object of affection is "99 44100 percent pure" (borrowing from the old Ivory soap advertising slogan).

Rabbitt would later record the song as the B-side to his 1975 single "Forgive and Forget".

It reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play Chart, #38 on the U.S. R&B chart, and #15 in the UK. The single spent a total of 45 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming one of the longest charting singles in the U.S. to date. The song won Waters a billboard award for, "Top-Selling Hot Dance Music Club Play Single for " at the 1994 Billboard Music Awards. The song was certified Gold in the United States. The music video directed by Marcus Nispel and choreographed by Michael K. Williams (who later went on to star as Omar Little on The Wire) was nominated for Best Dance Video on The 1994 MTV Video Music Awards

  • Pure Love (band)

Pure Love is an English-American rock band formed in 2011 by former Gallows frontman Frank Carter and ex-The Hope Conspiracy and Suicide File guitarist Jim Carroll, after Carter's departure from Gallows due to "creative differences". The band's musical style is a marked change from the hardcore punk backgrounds of the members.

    History

Frank Carter had made his name in the punk scene with Hemel Hempstead/Watford based Gallows, known for their intense live shows and, on the back of their success with début album Orchestra of Wolves, infamously signing a £1 million deal with Warner Bros. which lasted only 18 months before they were dropped, releasing just one album on the label, 2009's Grey Britain. Carter played his last show with Gallows in August 2011. Jim Carroll has played in numerous bands in his career, notably with The Hope Conspiracy and short lived hardcore band The Suicide File.
