Promised Land (The Vampire Diaries)

"Promised Land" is the 21st episode of the fifth season of the American series The Vampire Diaries and the series' 110th episode overall. "Promised Land" was originally aired on May 8, 2014, on The CW. The episode was written by Rebecca Sonnenshine and directed by Michael Allowitz.

Plot

The episode starts with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) having captured a traveler and interrogating him to tell him where Markos (Raffi Barsoumian) is so he can find Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) but the only thing the traveler tells him is that it does not matter if he find Markos since he has whatever he needs and it is too late to do anything. Meanwhile, Stefan and Elena are tied up and being drained by Markos who needs their blood for his spell. A woman appears and frees Stefan who goes and frees Elena and they escape.

Stefan calls Damon to tell him that they escaped but he does not know where they are and they will try to find their way back home safe. They are walking down the road discussing when a car appears. The driver stops to pick them up and it is Maria (Tamara Austin), one of the travelers and the one who freed Stefan. Elena and Stefan wonder why she is helping them and Maria tells them that her husband, Julian, is inside Tyler's (Michael Trevino) body permanently and that means when Markos finish the spell, Julian will die since Tyler's body is a hybrid. She wants to find her husband and run away.

Promised Land (2002 film)

Promised Land is a 2002 film based on the 1978 English translation of the award-winning Afrikaans novel, Na die Geliefde Land (1972) by the South African author, Karel Schoeman.

The film was directed by Jason Xenopoulos and starred Nick Boraine; other cast included Lida Botha, Wilma Stõckenstrom, Louis van Niekerk, Tobie Cronje, Grant Swanby, Daniel Browde, Ian Roberts, Dan Robbertse and Yvonne van den Bergh. It was made on a budget of just over R15 (~2US$).

It won the Best Screenplay Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2002.

Promised Land (TV series)

Promised Land is an American drama series which aired on CBS from 1996 to 1999. It is a spin-off from another series, Touched by an Angel.

Plot

Promised Land features Russell (Gerald McRaney) and Claire Greene (Wendy Phillips) as husband and wife who, with their son Josh (Austin O'Brien), daughter Dinah (Sarah Schaub), and nephew Nathaniel (Eddie Karr), traveled the United States pulling their Airstream trailer. Claire homeschooled the three children. Film veteran Celeste Holm also starred as Hattie, Russell's mother.

Much of the third season was spent in Denver, Colorado, but — much like Touched by an Angel — it was filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dominican Order

The Order of Preachers (Latin: Ordo Praedicatorum, hence the abbreviation OP used by members), more commonly known after the 15th century as the Dominican Order or Dominicans, is a Roman Catholic religious order founded by the Spanish priest Saint Dominic de Guzman in France and approved by Pope Honorius III (1216–27) on 22 December 1216. Membership in this "mendicant" Order includes friars, nuns, active sisters, and lay or secular Dominicans (formerly known as tertiaries, though recently there has been a growing number of Associates, who are unrelated to the tertiaries) affiliated with the Order.

Founded to preach the Gospel and to combat heresy, the teaching activity of the order and its scholastic organization placed the Preachers in the forefront of the intellectual life of the Middle Ages. The order is famed for its intellectual tradition, having produced many leading theologians and philosophers. The Dominican Order is headed by the Master of the Order, who is currently Bruno Cadoré. Members of the order generally carry the letters O.P., standing for Ordinis Praedicatorum, meaning of the Order of Preachers, after their names.

Atomic oxygen

Atomic oxygen, denoted O(³P), O(3P) or O((3)P), is very reactive, as the single atoms of oxygen tend to quickly bond with nearby molecules; on Earth's surface it does not exist naturally for very long, though in outer space, the presence of plenty of ultraviolet radiation results in a low Earth orbit atmosphere in which 96% of the oxygen occurs in atomic form.

2, is generally known as oxygen, but may be called dioxygen or molecular oxygen to distinguish it from the element itself. Elemental oxygen is most commonly encountered in this form, as about 21% (by volume) of Earth's atmosphere. Dioxygen can occur in metastable states, called singlet oxygen; in contrast, the ground state is known as triplet oxygen.
