Promise (Romeo Santos song)

"Promise" is a Latin pop song by Romeo Santos featuring Usher, from Santos' debut album Formula, Vol. 1 (2011). The track was co-written and produced by Rico Love. It was released as the album's second single in Latin America and the United States.

The song combines elements of bachata and R&B and peaked atop the Billboard's Latin Songs chart, becoming the second consecutive number-one song in the chart for Santos and the first for Usher. The music video for "Promise" was directed by Anthony Mandler, who previously worked with Rihanna, Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Background

After the temporary separation of the band Aventura, Romeo Santos signed a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment and recorded his debut solo album, Formula, Vol. 1, which includes most of the tracks in bachata rhythm and bilingual songs such as the lead single "You", which peaked at number-one in the Billboard Latin Songs, and "Promise", with vocals by American singer-songwriter Usher. The collaboration came through because Santos' manager Johnny Marines introduced Usher to Santos. Usher was impressed by Santos ability to perform after seeing him on YouTube, saying: "This is the thing that people will remember." "Promise" was co-written and produced by Rico Love and features Usher singing on bachata rhythm for the first time. According to Carlos Quintana of About.com the song and the rest of the tracks included on Formula, Vol. 1 may be classified as Latin urban contemporary with R&B and Hip-Hop influences. The track was named "fluttering" by Mikael Wood of Entertainment Weekly on his review of the parent album.

Promise (Luna Sea song)

"Promise" is a song by Japanese rock band Luna Sea, released on April 9, 2011 as a digital download available exclusively on Amazon websites; Japan, United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany. It is the band's first release of completely new material since "Love Song", which was over ten years ago.

Overview

"Promise" was originally composed by Inoran and was first played by Luna Sea at the World Memorial Hall on December 30, 2010 as part of their 20th Anniversary World Tour Reboot -to the New Moon- reunion tour. At the time it was reported to be titled "Promised Night".

Originally there were no plans to release the song, however after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami the band decided the best way they could help contribute to the recovery was to "generate support through music because music is the reason of our presence and our lifetime mission.", and donated all proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross and American Red Cross for earthquake relief and recovery.

Becel

Becel is a brand of margarine produced by Unilever and sold in a number of countries, including Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Israel, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, and Turkey. In the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa the product is sold under the name Flora, in France as Fruit d'Or, in Israel as Mazola and in the United States as Promise.

The name Becel originates from the three letter acronym BCL (Blood Cholesterol Lowering). When introduced, the blood cholesterol lowering effect was achieved by modifying the triacylglycerol (TAG) profile of the fat used in the margarine: an increased level of poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) reduces the blood cholesterol level (see e.g. A. Keys et al., Serum cholesterol response to changes in the diet. IV. Particular saturated fatty acids in the diet, Metabolism 14, 776-787 (1965)).

More recently, products were introduced under the "pro-activ" sub-brand. These products are based on the effects of plant sterols and sterol esters on blood cholesterol lowering (see e.g. M.B. Katan et al., Efficacy and Safety of Plant Stanols and Sterols in the Management of Blood Cholesterol Levels, Mayo Clinic Proceedings 78, 965-978 (2003)). In recent years the Becel/Flora brand has been extended to products other than margarine. Cooking oil, pot yogurt and yogurt drinks are some of the non-margarine products launched by Unilever under the Becel/Flora brand, all of which are designed to help lower blood cholesterol level.

Marvel Comics

Thor (often called The Mighty Thor) is a Marvel Comics superhero, based on the thunder god of Norse mythology. The superhero was created by editor Stan Lee and penciller Jack Kirby, who co-plotted, and scripter Larry Lieber, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (Aug. 1962).

On a mission from his father, Odin, Thor acts as a superhero while maintaining the secret identity of Dr. Donald Blake, an American physician with a partially disabled leg. Blake can transform by tapping his walking stick on the ground; the cane becomes the magical hammer Mjolnir and Blake transforms into Thor.

Thor, a founding member of the superhero group the Avengers, often battles his evil adoptive brother Loki, a Marvel character adapted from the Norse god of mischief. He is among Marvel's most powerful superheroes. Many recurring characters in his stories are based on Norse Mythology. Apart from this main superhero, Marvel features a number of characters based on him.

Jane Foster (comics)

Jane Foster is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is usually depicted as a supporting character of the superhero Thor. Created by writers Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, and artist Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Journey into Mystery #84 (Sept. 1962). For many years, Foster was a nurse employed by Dr. Donald Blake, Thor's first mortal host, before becoming a doctor herself. In 2015, Foster was revealed to be deemed worthy to wield Thor's hammer Mjolnir when the former is no longer able, adopting the name of Thor, the "Goddess of Thunder", and joining the Avengers.

Jane Foster has also appeared in various media adaptations of Thor, including the 2011 feature film Thor, and its 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World, in which she is portrayed by Natalie Portman.

Publication history

Jane Foster first appeared in Journey into Mystery #84 (Sept. 1962), and was created by plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber and penciler Jack Kirby. Named "Jane Nelson" in her first two appearances, she went on to appear as the love interest of Dr. Donald Blake, the secret identity of the Norse god superhero Thor, in nearly every issue through #136 (Jan. 1967) of the title, by then renamed Thor.
