In the Name of Love (Thompson Twins song)

"In the Name of Love" is a 1982 single written and performed by The Thompson Twins, at the time a septet (Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie, Joe Leeway, John Roog, Chris Bell, Peter Dodd, and Matthew Seligman). It was the first of twelve entries on the Billboard dance chart for the group, and the first entry for the band in the lower reaches of the US and UK pop charts (peaking outside the UK top 75, and "bubbling under" the hot 100 on the US charts.)

"In the Name of Love" went to number one on the dance music chart and stayed there for five weeks, and spent a total of twenty-one weeks on the chart. It peaked at number sixty-nine on the Billboard R&B chart.

The track was rereleased in 1988 in a remix by Shep Pettibone, resulting in another number-one single on the dance chart, as well as reaching number forty-six on the UK Singles Chart.

In the Name of Love (Earth, Wind & Fire album)

In the Name of Love is the 17th album by Earth, Wind & Fire. It was released in 1997 on Rhino Records and was produced by the band's leader Maurice White for Kalimba Productions. The album was originally released in Japan only, under the title of Avatar; this pressing contained a different tracklist than the more widely released version. The track "Love Is Life" is a remake of its namesake which appeared on the band 's debut album, Earth, Wind & Fire. In October 2006, In the Name of Love was reissued on White's label Kalimba Records, with the three songs only found on Avatar as bonus tracks.

In the Name of Love is the first Thompson Twins album released in the USA. The album was released in 1982 on Arista Records and comprises eight of the eleven tracks from their second album, Set, plus two of the singles from their debut album, A Product of ... (Participation) (neither of these albums were released separately in the US at that time).

The album was released on the strength of the single "In The Name of Love", which topped the dance music chart in Billboard magazine, reaching the number one position and staying there for five weeks between 22 May and 19 June 1982. The title track also peaked at number sixty-nine on the soul chart. The song was also featured two years later on the soundtrack for the movie Ghostbusters, as well as the soundtrack to the movie Valley Girl. The single was remixed in 1988, resulting in another number one single on the dance charts, as well as reaching number forty-six on the UK singles chart.

Pride

Pride is an inwardly directed emotion that carries two meanings. With a negative connotation pride refers to an inflated sense of one's personal status or accomplishments, often used synonymously with hubris. With a positive connotation, pride refers to a satisfied sense of attachment toward one's own or another's choices and actions, or toward a whole group of people, and is a product of praise, independent self-reflection, and a fulfilled feeling of belonging. Philosophers and social psychologists have noted that pride is a complex secondary emotion which requires the development of a sense of self and the mastery of relevant conceptual distinctions (e.g., that pride is distinct from happiness and joy) through language-based interaction with others. Some social psychologists identify it as linked to a signal of high social status. In contrast pride could also be defined as a disagreement with the truth. One definition of pride in the first sense comes from St. Augustine: "the love of one's own excellence". A similar definition comes from Meher Baba: "Pride is the specific feeling through which egoism manifests." In this sense, the opposite of pride is either humility or guilt; the latter in particular being a sense of one's own failure in contrast to Augustine's notion of excellence.

Pride (Johnna album)

Pride is the debut, solo album of American pop singer Johnna Lee Cummings, released under the name Johnna. The album was released in July 1996 on PWL International.

Background

Cummings first found success as a member of the American pop group Boy Krazy, who were formed in New York City through auditions held by talent agents in 1990. The group was signed to a sub-label of Polydor Records. They were flown to London to record material with Stock Aitken Waterman, who had massive success in both the UK and the US in the 1980s with acts like Kylie Minogue, Bananarama, Rick Astley, Jason Donovan, Dead Or Alive among many others.

Their debut single "That's What Love Can Do" was released in the UK in July 1991, peaking at No. 86. The follow up single "All You Have To Do" stalled at No. 91 in February 1992, resulting in Polydor deciding to drop the group from the label. By chance, as the group was returning to the US to finalize the release from their record deal in the fall of 1992, a Denver radio station discovered a re-edit of "That's What Love Can Do" found on a Hot Tracks remix compilation. An employee of the station loved the track, and they decided to edit the song down to be suitable for radio and playlist it. Shortly after, it because the station's most requested song. The success revived interest in the group, and the girls were flown back to London in December 1992 to finished their album. "That's What Love Can Do" was officially released in January 1993 and peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 2 on the radio Pop Charts.

Pride (In the Name of Love)

"Pride (In the Name of Love)" is a song by the Irish rock band U2. The second track on the band's 1984 album, The Unforgettable Fire, it was released as the album's lead single in September 1984. Written about Martin Luther King, Jr., the song received mixed critical reviews at the time, but it was a major commercial success for the band and has since become one of the band's most popular songs. It was named the 388th greatest song by Rolling Stone on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". "Pride" appeared on the compilation The Best of 1980-1990 as the opening track, and on the 2006 compilation U218 Singles.

Origin and recording

The melody and the chords were worked up in a November 1983 War Tour sound check in Hawaii and completed in Windmill Lane Studios during The Unforgettable Fire recording sessions. The guitar part is subtly varied through each verse, chorus, and melody, such that no riff is exactly repeated.

The song had been intended to be based on Ronald Reagan's pride in America's military power, but Stephen B. Oates's book Let The Trumpet Sound: A Life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and a biography of Malcolm X caused the lyricist Bono to ponder the different sides of the civil rights campaigns, the violent and the non-violent. In subsequent years, Bono has expressed his dissatisfaction with the lyrics, which he describes, along with another Unforgettable Fire song "Bad", as being "left as simple sketches". He says that he was swayed by the Edge and producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, who played down the need to develop the lyrics as they thought their impressionistic nature would give added forcefulness to the song's feeling, particularly when heard by non-English speakers. In U2 by U2, Bono said: "I looked at how glorious that song was and thought: 'What the fuck is that all about?' It's just a load of vowel sounds ganging up on a great man. It is emotionally very articulate - if you didn't speak English."

Jana Kramer

Jana Rae Kramer (born December 2, 1983) is an American actress and country music singer. She is best known for her role as Alex Dupre on the television series One Tree Hill. Kramer began a country music career in 2012 with the single "Why Ya Wanna" from her self-titled debut album for Elektra Records.

Early life

Kramer was born in Rochester Hills, Michigan, United States, to Nora and Martin Kramer. She is of German Chilean, Croatian and French ancestry. Jana has one brother Steve who is a police officer. Jana attended Rochester Adams High School. She speaks some German.

Career

2002–11: acting career and record deal

In 2002, Kramer made her acting debut in the low-budget independent horror film Dead/Undead. The following year Kramer guest appeared on All My Children, which marked Kramer's television debut. Kramer has since continued to appear in a number of television shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and CSI: NY. She has also had small supporting roles in films such as Click, Prom Night and Spring Breakdown.
