Capital South Coast

Capital South Coast is a regional radio station owned by operated by Global Radio as part of the Capital radio network. It broadcasts to South Hampshire from studios in Segensworth, Fareham.

History

Radio Victory

Radio Victory launched as the first local commercial radio service in the South of England in 1975, transmitting to a small area around Portsmouth. The licence was re-advertised by the Independent Broadcasting Authority The extended license, now to include Southampton and Winchester, was won by Ocean Sound Ltd. Radio Victory ceased operations in June 1986, a couple of weeks earlier than the expiry date of its franchise, with a test transmission informing listeners of the closure.

Ocean Sound

Ocean Sound launched on 12 October 1986 from a new purpose-built broadcast unit, built in just a year, in a business park in Segensworth West, outside Fareham, Hampshire and near the M27 motorway, a strategic location to prevent bias towards the two major cities of Southampton and Portsmouth, as well as removing association with Radio Victory, who were Portsmouth biased, however, some staff were hired from Radio Victory, such as sales managers and a Head of News.

KAWA (FM)

KAWA is a Contemporary Christian music (CCM) formatted radio station located in Dallas, Texas. It is a WAY-FM Network owned and operated station through Way Media, Inc. (a non-profit entity) and broadcasts on 89.7 FM. As a non-profit under previous ownership of Research Educational Foundation, Inc., it annually hosted two fund-raising drives to remain on the air. It broadcasts at 14,000 Watts from a tower in Sanger, Texas.

History

After a two year stay in Florida, Eldred and Raye Nell Thomas, returned to the Dallas area and decided to start a Christian radio station. Through other business interests, Mr. Thomas learned of KVTT now [KKXT], an existing station that operated as an extension of Elkins Institute, a broadcasting training facility. With retirement looming, Bill Elkins, the founder and president of the Elkins Institute, wanted to find someone to continue with the station he had operated since 1950. In March 1976, Mr. Thomas became the president of Research Educational Foundation, Inc. and General Manager of KVTT. (Eldred and Raye Nell Thomas are now both deceased and KVTT's FM 91.7 frequency was sold to local public broadcaster KERA in 2009.)

Power FM 98.1

Power FM 98.1 (call sign: 2VLY) is a local radio station in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia. It is based in Muswellbrook, and serves listeners in Muswellbrook, Singleton, Scone, Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and surrounding areas.

It is owned and operated by Grant Broadcasters, and is licensed to subsidiary Radio Hunter Valley, along with sister stations 2NM and 94.5 Hot Country. Along with 2NM, it operates from studios at 100 Bridge Street Muswellbrook. Power FM commenced operations on 7 June 1995, as Radio Hunter Valley's supplementary license, following a series of test simulcasts of 2NM.

The station transmits on 98.1 MHz on the FM band, from a transmitter site atop Mount Arthur, near the town of Muswellbrook. The station is licensed to operate at 20 kilowatts, but reportedly restricted to 10 kilowatts to prevent its signal spilling into the nearby Newcastle and Tamworth markets. The station also operates a translator on 102.7 MHz in Merriwa, broadcasting from the Banderra Downs transmission site with a power output of 50 watts. This frequency was launched in 2004 with the support of the federal government's radio blackspots program.
