Poste italiane Spa is a company that is owned by the Italian government.

Besides providing core postal services, Gruppo Poste Italiane offers integrated products, such as postal savings, communication, logistics and financial services in Italy.

The group offers a wide range of postal products, from express mail services to a broad selection of financial products.

Gruppo Poste italiane subsidiaries include: SDA Express Courier which provides express mail and package delivery; Postecom managing Internet services; BancoPosta Fondi offering life insurance and investment solutions, Postel offering hybrid electronic mail and document processing, and PosteMobile, a mobile virtual network operator.

History

1862-1990

Inheriting the setting of "Poste di Sardegna" - the corresponding service of the Kingdom of Sardinia - after the unification of Italy mails took in companies postal service of the kingdoms annexed and formed an organization via a national law on 5 May 1862 n. 604 (the so-called postal reform). With this rule the stakes were organized as a central administration of the state. The rule of 1862 picked up and adjusted the material, especially the methods of collection, sorting, transport and delivery of postal items and the establishment of ancillary services for registered and insured mail, return receipts and money orders.
