Point Dume

Point Dume is a promontory on the coast of Malibu, California that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The point, a long bluff, forms the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay. Point Dume Headlands Park affords a vista of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Santa Catalina Island. Zuma Beach lies to its immediate northwest.

History

Point Dume was named by George Vancouver in 1793 in honor of Padre Francisco Dumetz of Mission San Buenaventura. The name was misspelled on Vancouver's map as "Dume" and was never corrected. In the early 1980s, real estate development interests began pronouncing the name "du-MAY" and spelling it "Dumé"; this did not catch on.

In the mid-1930s, the 900-ton steam-schooner California, of the California Whaling Company, would anchor in Paradise Cove about a mile offshore, near Point Dume, and process whales caught by her two "killer boats", the Hawk and Port Saunders. She spent about four months there each winter (December–April), mostly flensing gray whales on their annual migration from Alaska to Baja California and back. Emerson Gaze, a reporter who spent a day with the fleet, said they had caught over fifty whales up to late January 1936, nearly all gray (with the exception of a few humpback and sperm whales). Nial O’Malley Keyes, in his book Blubber Ship, reported large numbers of whales were caught within a mile of Malibu (in or before 1934), a reference to the Point Dume operation.

Dume

Dume is a former civil parish in the municipality of Braga, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Real, Dume e Semelhe. It has a population of 3 081 inhabitants and a total area of 4.34 km².

Dume enjoyed in earlier times a relief situation especially in the sixth century during the reign of Theodemar king of the Suebi. His father, Chararic, invoked Saint Martin of Tours, when Theodemar was affected by a disease in childhood.

After obtaining the cure in 550, he founded a church in Dume and sent emissaries to Gaul in search of relics of the saint. By providential provision, the emissaries of the king met with Martin of Pannonia, (later to be canonized and known as Martin of Dume) who was heading from Jerusalem to Gaul, to the tomb of his namesake and compatriot. That meeting showed him the place where it should go to exercise his apostolate, because until then the Suebi had professed Arianism. He landed possibly in Portus Cale, where he went to Braga, to the court of Theodemar, completing the king's conversion, with the help of the bishop Eleutério and the bishop of Coimbra, Lucêncio. From Theodemar he obtained the newly founded Church of Dume, next to whom he built the Monastery of Dumio.

Dumè

Dominique Mattei (born in 1981 in Marseille, France) better known by the stage name Dumè is a French singer, composer and actor.

Biography

As an adolescent, he studied composing, singing and playing guitar at the Marseilles conservatory.

He opened for concerts by Pascal Obispo and signed as a composer for Atletico music. He wrote songs for Johnny Hallyday, Faudel, Natasha Saint-Pier, Louisy Joseph amongst others and partnered with Lionel Florence writing for others. In November 2009, Dominique Mattei announced that he was taking the name Dumè and was preparing his first album through financing from My Major Company. ·

In 2012, Dumè was also featured in Génération Goldman tribute project to Jean-Jaques Goldman singing Il suffira d'un signe alongside Merwan Rim, Amaury Vassili and Baptiste Giabiconi. In 2013, he is taking part in the French musical adaptation of Robin hood titled Robin des Bois playing the role of Vaisey, the Sheriff of Nottingham. He also performs in the play Notting Hill Nottingham as a solo and Devenir quelqu'un with M. Pokora (in the role of Robin Hood). ·
