Askø

Askø is a Danish island north of Lolland. It covers an area of 2.82 km² and has 55 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005).

In 1954, there were 170 inhabitants and one vehicle.

In 2014 energy company SEAS-NVE discovered a Neolithic boat in a submerged settlement as it replaced sea cables by Askø Island. The boat had split and sealing mass consisting of a strip of bark and resin was found in the hole.

Łask

Łask [wask] is a town in central Poland with 18,029 inhabitants (2013). It is the capital of Łask County, and is situated in Łódź Voivodeship (since 1999), previously in Sieradz Voivodeship (1975–1998). 32nd Air Base of the Polish Air Force is located nearby.

History

The first mention in history about Lask was in 1356. It became official a city in 1422 by the law of the polish king Wladyslaw Jagiello.

With the invasion of Poland and the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Łask was occupied by the Wehrmacht and annexed by Nazi Germany. It was administered as part of the county or district (kreis) of Lask within Reichsgau Wartheland. Following the arrival of the Red Army and the end of the war, Łask became part of the People's Republic of Poland.

PODS (company)

PODS, or Portable On Demand Storage, is a moving and storage company. It was founded in 1998 and is based in Clearwater, Florida.

Business

PODS operates by delivering a storage container to the customer's house. The containers are constructed of plywood over steel frames, are available in three sizes. The customer can pack their items in it, lock it themselves with their own padlock, then have the unit stored at a warehouse, or it can be delivered to another location. The units and warehouse are owned by local franchises. PODS is working with Sprint Nextel to use wireless GPS that can be used to track trucks in the fleet and to give directions to drivers making deliveries. PODS was bought in 2014 by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

History

PODS was founded in 1998 by Peter Warhurst who was looking to expand his family's storage business. He invented PODS containers, as well as a hydraulic lift system that enables operators to easily deliver and transport the units, which he named PODZILLA. In 2005, PODS grossed over $200 million in revenue. In addition, as of 2005, PODS was still privately owned, however, PODS is now franchised in 45 states, and logs 2,500 pickups and deliveries a day. Between 2005 and August 2009, PODS service expanded to include 48 states, as well as Australia and Canada.
