Inferno (horse)

Inferno (1902–1919) was a Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse. He has been called "Canada's first great racehorse" by the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

Background

He was owned and bred by distilling magnate Joseph E. Seagram, who in 1906 was voted president of the Ontario Jockey Club.

Inferno was out of the mare Bon Ino, who was owned and raced by Seagram and had won the 1898 Queen's Plate. Inferno's sire was Havoc, a stallion who ended his career as the sire of four King's Plate winners. Havoc was a son of Himyar, the Champion Sire in North America in 1893 who notably also produced U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Domino. Inferno was a very raucous horse and was a danger to his handlers.

Racing career

He was conditioned for racing by New Jersey-born trainer Barry Littlefield. In 1905, the three-year-old Inferno won Canada's most prestigious race, the King's Plate. That year, he also finished second in both the Toronto Autumn Cup and the King Edward Gold Cup. In 1906, he was again second in the Toronto Autumn Cup but won the Durham Cup Handicap and the first of three consecutive King Edward Gold Cups. The following year, Inferno won his second King Edward Cup plus the Toronto Autumn Cup, and in 1908 he won his second Durham Cup and made it three wins in a row in the King Edward Gold Cup. In addition, his owner joined the Whitney family and other wealthy American elite in bringing horses to compete during the fashionable summer racing season at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Inferno raced until age six and was part of Joseph Seagram's stable to race at Saratoga, where he won two important handicaps.

Inferno (Petra Marklund album)

Inferno is the first studio album by Swedish singer and songwriter Petra Marklund under her birth name since her 1999 album, Teen Queen. It was released on October 17, 2012 and is the follow-up to Love CPR, Marklund's fourth album under the alias September.

Background

In 2012, Marklund announced on septembermusic.se that she was recording her first Swedish studio album.

In an interview with dn.se, she officially confirmed that the next album would be released under her birth name, Petra Marklund, rather than releasing a fifth September album. She announced that this album would have no trace of her signature dance-pop style, and stated the album would be "dark and personal." She also stated that the album would contain influences of pop and hip hop.

Upon the announcement of the album, Marklund said "it doesn't mean I 'quit' September, it just means I'm gonna do more music. September is on my mind all the time and there will be more in the future!"

Lead single "Händerna mot himlen" was released on September 14, 2012. It peaked at #2 and was certified 6x Platinum in Sweden.

Plush

Plush (from French peluche) is a textile having a cut nap or pile the same as fustian or velvet. Its softness of feel gave rise to the adjective "plush" to describe something soft or luxurious, which was extended to describe luxury accommodation, or something rich and full.

Originally the pile of plush consisted of mohair or worsted yarn, but now silk by itself or with a cotton backing is used for plush, the distinction from velvet being found in the longer and less dense pile of plush. The soft material is largely used for upholstery and furniture purposes, and is also much employed in dress and millinery.

Modern plush are commonly manufactured from synthetic fibres such as polyester. One of the largest uses of this fabric is in the production of stuffed toys, with small plush toys made from plush fabric, such as teddy bears. Plush is also one of the main materials for the construction of designer toys.

Plush (song)

"Plush" is a song by American rock band Stone Temple Pilots. It is one of the band's biggest hits, and was released as the second single from the 1992 band's debut studio album, Core.

Composition and inspiration

The song's chord structure was inspired by Robert DeLeo's love of ragtime music, and its lyrics were loosely based on a newspaper article Scott Weiland had read about a girl who had been found dead in an area outside of San Diego. Weiland had also said that the song's lyrics are a metaphor for a failed relationship.

Reception

The song was released in 1992 as Core's second single and became a major rock radio hit in the U.S., peaking at #1 on the Album Rock Tracks and #9 on the Modern Rock Tracks. The song was also one of the first alternative rock songs to reach the #1 spot on the Album Rock Tracks chart during height of the alternative rock/grunge scene. "Plush" won in the category of "Best Hard Rock Performance" at the 1994 Grammy Awards. The music video also earned the band an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist in 1994. "Plush" remains one of the biggest rock hits of the 1990s, and is still commonly heard on radio stations today. The song also was voted #12 on the Australian annual music poll Triple J Hottest 100 in 1993. In 2004, this song was featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas soundtrack on Radio X. The song also appeared as a playable song in the music video games Rock Band 3 and Power Gig: Rise of the SixString in addition to the VH1 series Hindsight.

Plush (film)

Plush is a 2013 American erotic thriller film directed by Catherine Hardwicke and co-written by Arty Nelson with music by Nick Launay & Ming Vauze. The film stars Emily Browning, Xavier Samuel, Cam Gigandet, Dawn Olivieri, Thomas Dekker, and Frances Fisher.

Plot

After losing her band mate and brother to a drug overdose, rising rock star Hayley finds herself in a downward spiral. The second album from her band Plush is received as a critical and commercial disaster. She finds new hope and friendship in Enzo, the replacement guitarist who inspires her to reach new creative heights. But soon their collaboration crosses the line sexually and Hayley, who is married with two children, retreats from Enzo’s advances. As Hayley slowly discovers Enzo’s dark and troubled history, she realizes she may have let a madman into her home and that her mistake may cost the lives of people closest to her.
