Pit stop

In motorsports, a pit stop is where a racing vehicle stops in the pits during a race for refuelling, new tyres, repairs, mechanical adjustments, a driver change, as a penalty, or any combination of the above. Not all of these are allowed in all forms of racing.

The pits usually comprise a pit lane which runs parallel to the start/finish straight and is connected at each end to the main track, and a row of garages (usually one per team) outside which the work is done. Pit stop work is carried out by anywhere from five to twenty mechanics (also called a "pit crew"), depending on the series regulations, while the driver often waits in the vehicle (except where a driver change is involved or in Motorbike racing).

Depending on the circuit, the garage may be located on pit lane or in a separate area. Most North American circuits feature a pit lane with a number of pit stalls (typically 30-50) and a pit wall that separates the pit lane from the infield, with the garages (if used) on a separate road in the infield. In races where there are different series racing together, each series has its own separate garage or are parked in their own area. Circuits in other parts of the World (used in Formula One) typically have the individual garages open directly onto the pit lane through the team's assigned pit box. In American English, it is common to drop the definite article and just refer to "pit road", whereas in British English one would always refer to "the pit lane". A further difference is that in British English, the term "pit box" is universally used, whereas in American English, one would say "pit stall". It is important to note that in NASCAR, a pit box is a tool (see below), though there is a definitive term used for them.

Pité

Luís Pedro de Freitas Pinto Trabulo (born 22 August 1994), known as Pité, is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for FC Porto B as a midfielder.

Born in the town of Esgueira, Aveiro District, Pité joined local S.C. Beira-Mar's youth system in 2005, aged 11. He made his debut with the first team on 27 July 2013, playing the full 90 minutes in a 0–1 away loss against Portimonense SC for the season's Portuguese League Cup; his maiden appearance in the Segunda Liga took place on 12 August, in a 2–3 home defeat to FC Porto B.

Pité scored his first goal as a senior on 2 October 2013, helping to a 3–2 win at C.D. Santa Clara. He only missed seven games during the campaign, helping to a 12th-place finish amongst 22 teams.

On 1 July 2014, Pité signed for FC Porto, being assigned to the reserves also in the second division.

Kid Icarus

Kid Icarus (Japanese: 光神話 パルテナの鏡, Hepburn: Hikari Shinwa: Parutena no Kagami, lit. "Myth of Light: The Mirror of Palutena") is an action platform video game for the Family Computer Disk System in Japan and the Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe and North America. The first entry in Nintendo's Kid Icarus series, it was published in Japan in December 1986, and in Europe and North America in February and July 1987, respectively. It was later re-released for the Game Boy Advance in Japan during 2004, and for the Wii's Virtual Console online service in 2007. A sequel to this game was released for the Game Boy in 1991, and a third entry to the series was published for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console in March 2012.

The plot of Kid Icarus revolves around protagonist Pit's quest for three sacred treasures, which he must equip to rescue the Grecian fantasy world Angel Land and its ruler, the goddess Palutena. The player controls Pit through platform areas while fighting monsters and collecting items. Their objective is to reach the end of the levels, and to find and defeat boss monsters that guard the three treasures. The game was developed by Nintendo's Research and Development 1 division. It was designed by Toru Osawa and Yoshio Sakamoto, directed by Satoru Okada, and produced by Gunpei Yokoi.

Pit (nuclear weapon)

The pit, named after the hard core found in fruits such as peaches and apricots, is the core of an implosion nuclear weapon – the fissile material and any neutron reflector or tamper bonded to it. Some weapons tested during the 1950s used pits made with U-235 alone, or in composite with plutonium, but all-plutonium pits are the smallest in diameter and have been the standard since the early 1960s.

The pits of the first nuclear weapons were solid, with an urchin neutron initiator in their center. The Gadget and Fat Man used pits made of solid hot pressed material (at 400 °C and 200 MPa in steel dies) half-spheres of 9.2 cm diameter, with a 2.5 cm internal cavity for the initiator. The gadget's pit was electroplated with 0.13 mm of silver; the layer, however, developed blistering and the blisters had to be ground and plated with gold leaf before the test. The Fat Man pit, and those of subsequent models, were all plated with nickel. A hollow pit was considered and known to be more efficient but ultimately rejected due to higher requirements for implosion accuracy.

Crew (comics)

Crew, the first regular Czech international comic magazine, started publication in 1997. It was meant to be published every two months, but it started having long breaks after the first year. Officially publication ended in 2003 with Crew 21.

Name

Not to be confused with the English word "crew," the name of the magazine was a pun on the word blood (Czech: krev) as the magazine wished to portray "bloody" comics alongside others.

History

It ran for quite some time under the team of Štěpan Kopřiva, Jiří Pavlovský and Petr Litoš. But issues 17–21 were done by Vladimír Veverka. After the collapse of the original magazine, Litoš, Kopřiva and Pavlovský began to publish a new magazine — Crew2. Nineteen issues have been published to date (first issue published 2003, latest 2007). The Crew under Veverka was visibly less popular with the long-time fans, although it had its own following.

Crew was the only magazine to officially publish international comics after the 90's comics wave within the Czech republic. It has been criticized for not publishing Czech comics, which was redeemed partly by local magazines, such as Pot.

Crew were a British funk rock band formed in 1965 in London, England, by John Wright as lead vocalist and percussionist specializing on congas.

In 1969, the songs "Marty" and "Danger Signs", written by Richard Hartop, were recorded and released on Plexium and, in 1970, the band recorded a ska version of Paul Simon's "Cecilia" and "1970" by Jonathan King released on Decca.

In 1971, John reformed the band with, lyricist Jon Newey (bongos, claves, congas, maracas), John Chichester (electric guitar and vocals), Ian Rutter (bass guitar), Tony Perry (organ and vocals) and songwriter Martin Samuel (drums and percussion).

The band then signed with The Space Agency, in Chelsea, London, for management and representation and worked consistently including at such notable London venues as The Marquee Club and The Roundhouse. Signed to the same agency, Crew often performed as part of the Emperor Rosko International Roadshow.

The Crew, known as a funking good band for their style of original percussive-led progressive funk rock music, broke up in 1972.
