Pimp My Ride
Pimp My Ride was a TV show produced by MTV and hosted by rapper Xzibit. Each episode consists of taking one car in poor condition and restoring it, as well as customizing it. The original American version was hosted by rapper Xzibit (one episode featured guest hosts Chamillionaire and Don Omar). MTV2 has begun airing episodes from Pimp My Ride UK hosted by DJ Tim Westwood, which features cars being customised in the UK, and Pimp My Ride International, featuring cars in central Europe, hosted by hip hop artists Fat Joe and Lil' Jon, as well as the related CMT series Trick My Truck.
Format
This show picks young car owners living in Los Angeles or elsewhere in Southern California. An episode of Pimp My Ride generally begins with the participant showing his or her car off, and convincing MTV why it needs to be "pimped". After this segment, the host (normally rapper Xzibit, but there are occasionally guest hosts such as Chamillionaire) shows up at the participant's house, takes a look at the car himself, makes wisecracks about the particular things that are wrong with it, and promises the owner a complete makeover of the vehicle.
Pimp My Ride (video game)
Pimp My Ride is a simulation/racing game published by Activision. This game is based on the popular MTV show. It was released in 2006 for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2 consoles. In the game, players are challenged to pimp out their friends' cars by Xzibit, transforming something old and rusty into something worthy of displaying on the streets. Cars can be redesigned from bumper to bumper and it will be players’ responsibilities to capture the styles, likes and interests of their clients.
Reception
The game has received universally negative reviews. GameRankings and Metacritic gave it a score of 37.22% and 36 out of 100 for the PlayStation 2 version; 38.88% and 38 out of 100 for the Xbox 360 version; 23.50% and 24 out of 100 for the PSP version; and 35% and 26 out of 100 for the Wii version.
The PSP (PlayStation Portable) version was cited as the worst version of all and scored significantly lower than the other two versions, with critics deriding the game's frame rate, gameplay mechanics and replay value. The Xbox 360 and PS2 versions received 4.5 out of 10 from GameSpot, with the 360 version receiving 2.9 out of 10, and the PS2 and Wii versions 2.2 out of 10 from IGN, whereas the PSP version received 1.7 from GameSpot and 2 out of 10 from IGN.
Jeremih (album)
Jeremih is the eponymous debut studio album by American R&B recording artist Jeremih; it was released on June 30, 2009, by Def Jam Recordings. The album debuted at number 6 on the US Billboard 200, selling 69,000 copies in its first week.
Background
While attending Columbia College Chicago, Jeremih collaborated with record producer Mick Schultz. Together, they wrote all the songs, while Schultz produced the entire album. The duo recorded approximately 20 songs for the album. In February 2009, Jeremih met with Def Jam CEO Russell Williams and executive vice president of A&R Karen Kwak. After performing for the two, Jeremih was signed to Def Jam that same day.
Promotion
Prior to its release, the album was previewed exclusively on social networking website, including MySpace.
Singles
"Birthday Sex"; the album's lead single was released on March 24, 2009. It topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The single peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100.
