Phil Gordon

Philip Stewart Gordon (born July 6, 1970) is an American professional poker player, commentator and author.

Personal life

Gordon was born in El Paso, Texas. He spent his formative years in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Gordon began attending Georgia Tech at the age of 15 while still attending high school. At the end of the 11th grade and after being awarded the National Merit Scholarship, Gordon dropped out of high school and attended Georgia Tech full-time. Gordon graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. degree in computer science in 1991. After stints working at Santa Cruz Operation and Lockheed, Gordon joined start-up Netsys Technologies as their first hired employee. In 1996, Netsys was acquired by Cisco Systems, making him a millionaire, and in 1997 he retired from the high-tech industry to travel the world and to play poker.

Gordon currently lives in Newport, Washington, with his wife, Barb, and their two boys, Xander and Zachary.

Phil Gordon first entered The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in 2001 and finished 4th, winning $400,000. In 2002, he made two more WSOP final tables, finishing 6th in the $2,000 Pot Limit hold 'em event and 3rd in the $2,500 Omaha Hi/Lo Split event. At the 2005 WSOP, he finished 3rd in the $1,500 No Limit Texas hold 'em Shootout event. Although he made several WSOP final tables, he has yet to win a bracelet. However, he did win the 2010 WSOP Ante Up For Africa event, defeating actress Shannon Elizabeth heads up. He donated the entire $130,641 first place prize to the charity.

Phil Gordon (born April 18, 1951) is an American politician who served as the 51st mayor of Phoenix, Arizona from 2004 to 2012. Gordon is a member of the Democratic Party.

Early life, education, and early career

Born to Sidney and Judy Gordon, he is the oldest of three children and the grandson of a Lithuanian Jewish immigrant. In 1960, the Gordon family moved to Phoenix where Phil attended Madison Meadows Elementary and Middle School and Central High School. He attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. After earning his undergraduate degree, Gordon entered Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.

Gordon has had worked in a variety of professions, including as a school teacher, lawyer, business owner, chairman of Landiscor Aerial Photography Company, as well serving on the Madison School Board.

After serving as chief of staff to a former Phoenix Mayor in 1996, Gordon's interest in Phoenix became his incentive to seek public office. Pledging to fight crime and preserve neighborhoods, he entered the race for Phoenix City Council and was elected in 1997 and 2001.

Phil Gordon (actor)

Phil Gordon (May 5, 1916 – June 15, 2010) was an American character actor and dialect coach, most known for his work in television. Gordon's work included roles on The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction.

Gordon was born Phil Gulley on May 5, 1916, in Meridian, Mississippi. His parents were Philomen and Zena Alexina Gulley. He enlisted in the United States Navy and the United Service Organizations (USO) during World War II. He worked as a jazz musician following the end of World War II, touring in Chicago and New Orleans during the 1940s and 1950s.

Gordon moved to California in the late 1950s, where he worked as an actor and dialect coach (for Green Acres) in television throughout the 1960s. He departed the television industry and moved to Mobile, Alabama, with his wife, Jane Dupree Gulley, in the late 1970s. He resided in Mobile for the remainder of his life.

Phil Gordon died on June 15, 2010, in Mobile at the age of 94. He was interred at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile. His wife of more than 40 years had died prior.
