Peter Sarsgaard

John Peter Sarsgaard (/ˈsɑːrzɡɑːrd/; born March 7, 1971) is an American actor. He landed his first feature role in the movie Dead Man Walking in 1995. He then appeared in the 1998 independent films Another Day in Paradise and Desert Blue. That same year, Sarsgaard received a substantial role in The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), playing Raoul, the ill-fated son of Athos. Sarsgaard later achieved critical recognition when he was cast in Boys Don't Cry (1999) as John Lotter. He landed his first leading role in the 2001 film The Center of the World. The following year, he played supporting roles in Empire, The Salton Sea, and K-19: The Widowmaker.

For his portrayal of Charles Lane in Shattered Glass, Sarsgaard won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for the 2004 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. Sarsgaard has appeared in an eclectic range of films, including the 2004 comedy-drama Garden State, the biographical film Kinsey (2004), the drama The Dying Gaul (2005) and big-budget films such as Flightplan (2005), Jarhead (2005), Orphan (2009), An Education (2009), Knight and Day (2010), and the superhero film Green Lantern (2011), Lovelace (2013), Kelly Reichardt's Night Moves (2013), Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine (2013) and Black Mass (2015). Sarsgaard also appeared in the U.S. TV series The Killing (2013) as a man on death row perhaps wrongfully convicted for the brutal murder of his wife—a performance which he says included "some of the best acting I have ever done in my life." His latest film, Experimenter, in which he stars alongside Winona Ryder, was released in the U.S. on October 16th 2015.

Famous quotes by Peter Sarsgaard:

"When I finished filming and I flew back home to Australia, I really did not want to take that 14-hour flight."
"I get so happy to see someone like Jodie descend into absurdity and be human."
"He just talked about religion in a way that I could hear. It's one thing to have your parents tell you about faith, but to hear it from someone who isn't apparently emotionally vested in you is special."
"I've never acted with someone who I knew so well before I started,"
"It's a movie about warriors in search of a war - about what it's like to be part of a well-trained, specialized Marine unit that gears up psychologically and physically for battle and then doesn't fight."
"Everyone has their own opinion about what this country is doing. Personally, I wish we hadn't gone to Iraq."
"I don't care, really, whether the movie polarizes people, Republican, Democrat, ... I don't think it should. But what's more important to me is that I hope Marines get something out of it. I hope that they feel like we honored them, because we meant to."

"But the way that we've got it organized in our family, we try not to work at the same time, so I'm just now starting to look around. I think I'd like to do a film."
"I always think change is important in a character. The most dynamic choices that you can make for a character are always the best ones."
"If you go in and audition for roles rather than just be offered them, then you kind of get a chance to kind of discover that you can do something that you didn't think you could do."
"I just pick the best roles that are left over, and they usually aren't the heterosexual, leading-man, non-drug-addict parts. And once you get into doing them, people know you do them."
