Peter Phelps (born 20 September 1960 in Sydney) is an Australian actor, singer and writer. He is notable for his role as Peter Church in the television drama, Stingers, and as Trevor Cole in Baywatch. Phelps has appeared in feature films including Point Break with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, and Blackwater Trail with Judd Nelson. He is the brother of Professor Kerryn Phelps.
Phelps began his acting career in the early 1980s with an ongoing role in the Network Ten teen soap opera The Restless Years produced by the Reg Grundy Organisation. After that series ended he had a starring role in new Grundy soap opera Sons and Daughters. It was actually Phelps who came up with the "Pat the Rat" moniker in the series.
In the early 1990s, he was one of the lifeguards (Trevor Cole) in the first series of Baywatch, and had a minor role in the film Point Break. He also had roles in A Country Practice and The Flying Doctors. In 1993, Phelps won an Australian Film Institute Best Actor award for his role in the G.P. episode, "Exposed".
Peter Robert Phelps (born 7 May 1968) is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since March 2011. He contested the New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of Drummoyne in the 1999 New South Wales State election.
He is the current Government whip in the Legislative Council.
Phelps was born at Camden District Hospital to Robert and Gwen Phelps. He spent his early years living in Bradbury, New South Wales and attending the Bradbury Infants School. Later in life his family moved to the Sydney inner-Western suburbs of Camperdown, New South Wales and then Dulwich Hill, New South Wales. He attend Camperdown Demonstration School, Summer Hill opportunity classes, Fort Street High School, and Sydney University (St. Paul's College). At Sydney University he obtained his PhD in 1997.
Before entering Parliament Phelps worked as an adviser to various Liberal politicians: Ian McLachlan (1998), John Moore (1998–99), Senator Chris Ellison 1999–2000, Senator Eric Abetz (2001–06), Gary Nairn (2006–07), Senator Michael Ronaldson (2009–10) and Bronwyn Bishop 2010–11.
Peter Phelps (born 28 March 1945) is a former competition swimmer who represented Australia at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Phelps competed in the preliminary heats of the men's 100-metre freestyle event, finishing with a time of 56.1 seconds. He previously anchored the Australian gold medal team in the 4×110-yard freestyle relay at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth.
Phelps worked in the printing industry for many years in Sydney, before retiring in mid-2012.
