Peter Hutton (filmmaker)

Peter Hutton (born 1944 in Detroit, Michigan) is an experimental filmmaker, known primarily for his silent cinematic portraits of cities and landscapes around the world. He has also worked as a professional cinematographer, most notably for his former student Ken Burns. Hutton studied painting, sculpture and film at the San Francisco Art Institute. In 1987, Hutton was awarded Best Cinematography for his work on Phil Hartman's feature film "No Picnic" at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2011, the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress selected "Study of a River" as one of 25 films annually chosen for permanent preservation. He has taught filmmaking at CalArts, Hampshire College, Harvard University, SUNY Purchase, and Bard College, where he has served as the director of the Film and Electronic Arts Program since 1989. Much of Hutton's career was influenced by his time in the merchant marine. Hutton's films are distributed by Canyon Cinema in San Francisco and Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin. In May 2008 the Museum of Modern Art in New York held a full retrospective of Hutton's films. His most recent work, Three Landscapes premièred at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013.

Peter Hutton (footballer)

Peter Hutton (born 2 March 1973 in Derry, Northern Ireland) is an Irish football coach and former player who is the former manager of Derry City.

Career

In his youth Hutton played with Oxford United Stars F.C. when they competed in the Derry and District League. He later played with Coleraine F.C., and at the age of 15, signed for Bradford City's youth training scheme. This saw Hutton move to Bradford for a number of summer months between seasons while still under contract with Coleraine. The contract was effectively one that would have seen Hutton tied to Bradford for his entire playing career. However, he was always very keen to play for Derry City and the task of getting out of his insidious contract with Bradford City began. The threat of legal action and the resulting adverse publicity resulted in the English club relenting and when his contract with Coleraine ran out, he signed for his home-town club, Derry City, in 1991. He made his League of Ireland debut for Derry on 17 March 1991.

Peter Hutton (priest)

Peter Hutton (b. at Holbeck, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, 29 June 1811; d. at Ratcliffe, Leicestershire, England, 2 September 1880) was an English Roman Catholic priest and headmaster of Ratcliffe College.

Life

He was baptized at Lady Lane Chapel, then the only Roman Catholic church in Leeds. His grandfather was a Catholic convert and wished Peter's father to be a Benedictine monk, but he found that he had no vocation, so returned to a secular life and married. In his will he requested that his son Peter should be educated in a Benedictine college, and Peter was accordingly sent to Ampleforth College in 1824, and began his novitiate in 1829.

Owing to certain provisions of the Catholic Emancipation Act of that year, his superiors were, at least theoretically, debarred from professing novices and, as they were unwilling to offend the authorities in any way, Peter was not professed. So in 1830 he went to Prior Park, where he taught Classics. In 1835 the members of the Institute of Charity came to assist in the teaching, and Dr Luigi Gentili shortly afterwards succeeded to the presidency of the college. Hutton was at this time a deacon, having been so for over five years; and he disliked the advent of these foreign professors very much. The bishop then sent him to the Catholic University of Leuven in 1836, where he studied till be was recalled to Prior Park in 1839 by Bishop Baines to replace Father Furlong (who had just joined the Order of Charity) as President of St. Peter's College. Hutton was ordained priest 24 September 1839, and appointed president, and professor of Latin and Greek.
