Perná

Perná is a village and municipality (obec) in Břeclav District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic.

The municipality covers an area of 9.33 square kilometres (3.60 sq mi), and has a population of 764 (as at 28 August 2006).

Perná lies approximately 22 kilometres (14 mi) north-west of Břeclav, 39 km (24 mi) south of Brno, and 210 km (130 mi) south-east of Prague.

Pernå

Pernå (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈperno]; Finnish: Pernaja) is a former municipality of Finland.

Pernå is located in the province of Southern Finland and was part of the Eastern Uusimaa region. The municipality had a population of 3,961 (31 December 2009) and covered an area of 1,107.07 square kilometres (427.44 sq mi) of which 687.6 km² (265.5 sq mi) is water. The population density was 9.44 inhabitants per square kilometre (24.4/sq mi).

The municipality was bilingual, with the majority being Swedish and minority Finnish speakers.

Pernå is the oldest municipality in the Eastern Uusimaa region. The current municipalities of Lapinjärvi, Liljendal and Loviisa were originally part of it. Mikael Agricola, the founder of written Finnish was born in Pernå in the early 16th century. He is also considered to be the "Reformator of Finland" in the transfer from Catholicism to Lutheranism.

Situated conveniently by the coast, and engulfing also a small river, the lands of Pernå were attractive at a time when waterways rather than proper roads provided the means of transport. There are a number of manor houses in the Pernå area - most notably Savlaks manor, which dates back to the 1450s - at a time when Finland was a part of Sweden.

Pern

Pern is a fictional planet created by Anne McCaffrey beginning in the 1960s, the setting for the Dragonriders of Pern series of science fiction books. In the story it is "Rukbat 3", the third planet in orbit around the star Rukbat, counting outward.

No Pern fiction has been published since June 2012, several months after Anne McCaffrey's death. There are two collections of Pern stories; twenty-three novels, some written jointly or solely by Todd McCaffrey, the son of Anne; and a few authorized companion books by other writers. The figure shows the habitable portion of Pern's northern continent and a tiny portion of its southern continent, which are the setting for the first novel Dragonflight (1968) and its sequel Dragonquest. East–West it shows approximately that hemisphere known prior to the last two books (2011, 2012). North–South it does not show the abandoned region of "Landing" and early colonization, further to the southeast, whose rediscovery and resettlement is one unifying theme of the stories that follow Dragonquest in Pern historical time, perhaps one third of the series.
