Paul Newton

Paul Newton, is an Australian artist who has twice won the Packing Room Award at the Archibald Prize. Paul Newton won People's Choice Award in the year 2001 and with it he also won the Packing Room Prize. He won in 1996 with a portrait of announcer John Laws CBE, and again in 2001 with a portrait of characters Roy Slaven and HG Nelson, which also won the People's Choice Award.

He has works in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, and is a portrait artist for Parliament House. He has painted Prime Ministers and Governor General Sir William Deane AC, KBE. Other portraits by him have been Archibald Prize finalists including paintings of model Kate Fischer in 1997; model Maggie Tabberer AM in 1999; rugby player David Campese AM in 2000 (which was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery). He has also won portrait competitions in Philadelphia and the The Portrait Society of America's 2003 International Portrait Competition in Washington DC.

In 1999 a portrait he did of Bryce Courtenay AM was hung in the Salon des Refuses, Archibald. A portrait of John Doyle he did was also hung in the Salon des Refuses in 1995.

Paul Newton (musician)

Paul Newton (born 21 February 1948, Andover, Hampshire) is a British rock musician. He was bassist with progressive group "Shinn" which featured organist Don Shinn and drummer Brian "Blinky" Davison and then joined a reformed line-up of "The Gods" with Ken Hensley and Lee Kerslake. He was the original bass guitarist for Uriah Heep, and played on the band's first three albums. He subsequently played for a band called "Festival" for several years on the Mecca Palais circuit and also worked as a studio musician and appeared on various recordings. More recently he has performed with other ex-members of Uriah Heep (Ken Hensley, John Lawton & Lee Kerslake) in "Uriah Heep Legends" and continues to do this.Has recently appeared with "Behind Closed Doors, a band formed by son, Julian and was also a member of Ledbury rock band "The Rocking Aces" until they disbanded in December 2013. Currently working on an album with singer/guitarist Chris Rainbow & a CD of the first four tracks is now available. Full CD will be released in 2016. Now also playing with the re-formed "Off the Cuff"

Paul Newton is an electronic dance music DJ and producer from Liverpool. He was a member of Neve, who had a #70 hit with a remix of Y-Traxx's Mystery Land and a member of Point4, who wrote the Lisa Scott-Lee songs Lately and Too Far Gone which made #6 and #11 on the UK Singles Chart.
