Paul Robert Laine (born October 12, 1967) is a Canadian musician who has worked with several rock bands during the course of his career. He began his professional career as a solo artist, then was the singer of Danger Danger out of New York for eleven years, then fronted his own band, Shugaazer. Paul now has a new band called Darkhorse, whose new album called Let It Ride was released April 29, 2014.
Laine was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He left his home when he was 13 years old, and began playing in bars at 15. At the age of 17 he started a management company with friends Les Horne and Fran Adamson, and raised enough money to record an album and began shopping it to the U.S. market. It immediately garnered the attention of CBS which offered him a deal. It wasn't long before other labels came to the table, and Paul was snatched up by Elektra. His demo also got the attention of Canadian VJ Terry David Mulligan, and Laine was promptly signed to a management deal with Bruce Allen Talent, and went into Little Mountain Studio to record with mega producer Bruce Fairbairn.
How can the small flowers grow
If the wild winds blow
And the cold snow is all around
Where will the frail birds fly
If their home on high
Have been torn down to the ground
Lift the Wings
That carry me away from here and
Fill the Sail
That breaks the line to home
But when I'm miles and miles apart from you
I'm beside you when I think of you - a Stóirín a Grá
How can a tree stand tall
If a rain won't fall
To wash its branches down
How can the heart survive
Can it stay alive
If its love's denied for long
Lift the Wings
That carry me away from here and
Fill the Sail
That breaks the line to home
But when I'm miles and miles apart from you
I'm beside you when I think of you - a Stóirín
And I'm with you when I think of you - a Stóirín
