Paul Hoffman (born April 21, 1946) is an American rower who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics and in the 1972 Summer Olympics.
He was born in New York City.
Hoffman was a member of the US Olympic Rowing Team at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. A supporter of the Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR), Hoffman provided Peter Norman the Australian winner of the silver medal of the 200 m track race with his OPHR badge he wore at the medal ceremony in support of the protest by Tommie Smith and John Carlos medal podium. He went on to face a US Olympic Committee disciplinary hearing charged with conspiracy. He was found not guilty and was allowed to take part in the eights race. He was the coxswain of the American crew which finished sixth in the eights event.
Hoffman went on to take a silver medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich as the cox of the eights boat.

Coach Paul Hoffman was the 30th head college football coach for the The Apprentice School Builders located in Newport News, Virginia and he held that position for eight seasons, from 1990 until 1997. His coaching record at Apprentice was 31 wins, 39 losses, and 1 tie. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him third at Apprentice in total wins and tenth at Apprentice in winning percentage (0.437).

Hoffman has been involved with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) since the early 1990s, is as of 2015 chair of the IETF IP Security Maintenance and Extensions (ipsecme) working group, and has chaired numerous working groups in the past. He is the founder of the Internet Mail Consortium and the Virtual Private Network Consortium.
He has authored popular books on technical topics, including Perl for Dummies and Netscape Communicator for Dummies. Additionally, he is the author of the following Requests for Comments (RFCs):
