Paul Chan Mo-po

Paul Chan Mo-po MH JP (born 18 March 1955 in Hong Kong with family roots in Chaozhou, Guangdong) is the current Secretary for Development of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (Functional constituency, accountancy). He is an accountant and the former President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). He holds BBA and MBA degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he is an Adjunct Associate Professor. He has also studied at the Harvard Business School. Having been caught up in scandals immediately since his appointment to the government, Chan is considered by local media to be an embarrassment to the government as he has been one of its most controversial members other than CY Leung himself.

Biography

Chan is the eldest of a family of four, grew up in a resettlement estate that his family lived in until a fire destroyed Shek Kip Mei in 1953. Chan was admitted to the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he graduated with an accounting degree. At one time, he worked by day in the Inland Revenue and by night as a lecturer. He later set up his own accounting firm.

Paul Chan Wai-chi

Paul Chan Wai Chi (traditional Chinese: 陳偉智; simplified Chinese: 陈伟智; pinyin: Chén Wěizhì) (born on 4 January 1957 in Macau) is a Macau politician, graduated from Yuet Wah College, who is the President of New Democratic Macau Association and a member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau. He is one of the three pro-democracy lawmakers in Macau.

In 2009, Chan participated in the legislative election in the candidate list led by Antonio Ng, and won the third seat for the Macau democracy camp.

Paul Chan (artist)

Paul Chan (born April 12, 1973) is an American artist, writer and publisher born in Hong Kong on April 12, 1973. His single channel videos, projections, animations and multimedia projects are influenced by outsider artists, playwrights, and philosophers such as Henry Darger, Samuel Beckett, Theodor W. Adorno, and Marquis de Sade. Paul Chan’s work concerns topics including but not limited to; geopolitics, globalization, and their responding political climates, war documentation, violence, deviance, and pornography, as well as language and new media.

Chan has exhibited his work at the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial, documenta, the Serpentine Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art, The New Museum, and other institutions. Chan has also engaged in a variety of publishing projects, and, in 2010, founded the art and ebook publishing company Badlands Unlimited, based in New York. Chan’s essays and interviews have appeared in Artforum, Frieze, Flash Art, October, Tate etc., Parkett, Texte Zur Kunst, Bomb, and other magazines and journals.
