Pattern

A pattern, apart from the term's use to mean "Template", is a discernible regularity in the world or in a manmade design. As such, the elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner. A geometric pattern is a kind of pattern formed of geometric shapes and typically repeating like a wallpaper.

Any of the five senses may directly observe patterns. Conversely, abstract patterns in science, mathematics, or language may be observable only by analysis. Direct observation in practice means seeing visual patterns, which are widespread in nature and in art. Visual patterns in nature are often chaotic, never exactly repeating, and often involve fractals. Natural patterns include spirals, meanders, waves, foams, tilings, cracks, and those created by symmetries of rotation and reflection. Patterns have an underlying mathematical structure; indeed, mathematics can be seen as the search for regularities, and the output of any function is a mathematical pattern. Similarly in the sciences, theories explain and predict regularities in the world.

Patterns (song)

"Patterns" is a song written by Paul Simon and included on his 1965 album The Paul Simon Songbook, and later recorded by Simon and Garfunkel on their third album, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. The lyrics are about how life is a labyrinthine maze, following patterns that are difficult to unravel or control although we are trapped in them.

Warrel Dane included a heavy metal cover of the song on his 2008 album Praises to the War Machine.

Villeneuve is a municipality in the district of Broye, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.

Geography

Villeneuve has an area, as of 2009, of 3.5 square kilometers (1.4 sq mi). Of this area, 2.02 km² (0.78 sq mi) or 57.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.21 km² (0.47 sq mi) or 34.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.28 km² (0.11 sq mi) or 7.9% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04 km² (9.9 acres) or 1.1% is either rivers or lakes and 0.02 km² (4.9 acres) or 0.6% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 4.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.5%. Out of the forested land, 32.9% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.4% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 47.6% is used for growing crops and 9.3% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.

Geography

Villeneuve has an area, as of 2009, of 32.04 square kilometers (12.37 sq mi). Of this area, 8.56 km² (3.31 sq mi) or 26.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 17.69 km² (6.83 sq mi) or 55.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.63 km² (1.02 sq mi) or 8.2% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.17 km² (0.066 sq mi) or 0.5% is either rivers or lakes and 3.08 km² (1.19 sq mi) or 9.6% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 1.5% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 1.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.8%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 1.7% of the area Out of the forested land, 50.9% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.6% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees.
