Sub Sub

Sub Sub were an English dance act from Handforth, Cheshire composed of Jimi Goodwin and twin brothers Andy and Jez Williams.

The threesome met at school in 1985 and became regulars at The Haçienda while composing their own material together. They had an underground 12" single ("Space Face" in 1991) and moderate commercial success in the early 1990s on Rob Gretton's label Rob's Records, including the single "Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)" (featuring guest vocalist Melanie Williams) which reached #3 on the UK Singles Chart. The trio's only full-length album Full Fathom Five was released in September 1994.

After a fire destroyed their recording studio on Blossom Street in the Ancoats area of Manchester on the Williams twins' birthday in 1996, they started anew as the more indie-oriented act Doves in 1998. An unreleased collection of tracks meant to be featured on the band's second full-length album was issued in 1998 as Delta Tapes.

Aurora Flight Sciences Orion

The Orion is a Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Aurora Flight Sciences.

Background

Work on the Orion began in 2006, when the U.S. Army funded it as a hydrogen-fuelled “high-altitude, long-loiter” (HALL) UAV. Originally, it was conceived as a single-engine, hydrogen-fueled, high-altitude unmanned aircraft intended to carry a 400 lb (180 kg) payload to 65,000 ft (20,000 m) having a 7,000 lb (3,200 kg) gross weight; similar aircraft included the AeroVironment Global Observer and Boeing Phantom Eye. Aurora was selected by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in 2007 for the Ultra Long Endurance study contract to look at fixed-wing alternatives to the Blue Devil 2 and Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) surveillance airships then being explored (both ultimately cancelled) and push beyond the endurance limits of the MQ-1 Predator and RQ-4 Global Hawk; they submitted an unsolicited proposal to the AFRL for the Orion, powered by conventional engines, in 2008. The company won a joint-capability technology demonstration contract to build the Orion in 2009, which led to a contract for the Medium-Altitude Global Intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and Communications relay (Magic) joint concept technology demonstration (JCTD) in 2010. By then, the Orion had been redesigned to be a twin-engine, turbo-diesel-powered, medium-altitude UAV capable of flying for 120 hours at 20,000 ft (6,100 m) with a 1,000 lb (450 kg) payload and an increased gross weight of 11,000 lb (5,000 kg). The first demonstrator was rolled out on 22 November 2010, 88 days after the contract award. In 2011, the program was transferred to the Air Force's Big Safari office.

Ancient starships

The Ancients are one of the most technologically advanced races in Stargate, and this is reflected in their starships. Duplicates of these ships are utilized by their nanite creations, the Asurans, as they also possess knowledge of Ancient technology.

Puddle Jumper

The Puddle Jumper or Jumper is a small spacecraft used extensively in the Stargate Atlantis series. Puddle Jumpers were created by the Ancients and most exist within the city built by the Ancients known as Atlantis. The Jumpers are used by the humans from Earth that traveled to Atlantis so that they can travel to other planets as well as navigate the planets once they arrive—both in the air and underwater. Jumpers are cylinder-shaped with two retractable engines (see picture at right), one on either side, so that they can fit through the Stargate device. The interior of the Jumper is divided in two parts: cockpit and aft; the bulkhead door between the two sections is airtight and can hold even against the pressure of deep ocean. Access to the Jumper is provided by a rear ramp-hatch. Puddle Jumpers are armed with drone weapons capable of destroying larger ships. Jumpers are also equipped with a cloaking device to evade enemies which renders the ship effectively invisible to both the eye and most sensors.
