Motion (conference)

motion is one of North America’s leading innovative and uniquely intimate conference for creatives. Influential creative pros in the motion picture and broadcast industries take the stage to share unique concepts and innovative ideas: 18-minute TED talk style presentations designed to revitalize the creative muse and feed your creative brain.

motion was founded in 2006, as a one-off one-day regional event taking place in the Southwest part of the United States. In 2007, the conference became an annual multi-day worldwide event, and is attended by creatives including motion designers, producers, visual effects artists, writers, animators, motion picture title designers, broadcast designers, creative directors, graphic designers, and illustrators.

June 2015, motion will be held at the New Mexico History Museum Auditorium in Santa Fe, New Mexico in conjunction with CURRENTS International New Media Festival.

Motion in United States law

In United States law, a motion is a procedural device for decision. It is a request to the judge (or judges) to make a decision about the case. Motions may be made at any point in administrative, criminal or civil proceedings, although that right is regulated by court rules which vary from place to place. The party requesting the motion may be called the movant, or may simply be the moving party. The party opposing the motion is the nonmovant or nonmoving party.

How motions are made

In the United States, as a general rule, courts do not have self-executing powers. In other words, in order for the court to rule on a contested issue in a case before it, one of the parties or a third party must raise an appropriate motion asking for a particular order. Some motions may be made in the form of an oral request in open court, which is then either summarily granted or denied orally by the court. Today, however, most motions (especially on important or dispositive issues that could decide the entire case) are decided after oral argument preceded by the filing and service of legal papers. That is, the movant is usually required to serve advance written notice along with some kind of written legal argument justifying the motion. The legal argument may come in the form of a memorandum of points and authorities supported by affidavits or declarations. Some northeastern U.S. states have a tradition in which the legal argument comes in the form of an affidavit from the attorney, speaking personally as himself on behalf of his client. In contrast, in most U.S. states, the memorandum is written impersonally or as if the client were speaking directly to the court, and the attorney reserves declarations of his own personal knowledge to a separate declaration or affidavit (which are then cited to in the memorandum). One U.S. state, Missouri, uses the term "suggestions" for the memorandum of points and authorities.

Passion (Geri Halliwell album)

Passion is the third studio album by English singer Geri Halliwell, released on 6 June 2005 by Innocent Records. Two singles were released from the album: "Ride It", which charted at number four, and "Desire", which charted at number 22 on the UK Singles Chart. Critics praised Halliwell's improved voice but the album was a commercial failure, peaking at number 41 with only 5,432 copies sold and charting for only one week on the UK Albums Chart. However, the album did manage to become a moderate hit worldwide, selling over half a million copies according to the Daily Mail.

Background

The album was originally titled Disco Sister with Halliwell focusing the album on electropop, EDM and Europop sounds. She recorded many songs between 2002 and 2004 with a number of producers. Songs recorded during this period that did not appear on the final album include "Set Me Off", "Turn It On", "Geri's Got Her Groove Back", "Disco Sister", "My Sweetest Pain", "Gimme Your Love" and a cover version of "100% Pure Love". But in 2004 EMI changed the focus of the album and the title to Passion, replacing most of the dance songs with ballads and pop-jazz sounds, including the new songs "Passion", "There's Always Tomorrow", "So I Give Up on Love" and the dance-pop "Desire" and "Surrender Your Groove".
